Spoiler review.
Really enjoyed the prose in this novel. The plot was engaging, I was entertained throughout. Easy to read, easy to follow.
I do not like Penn as a love interest for Rhya but I do not think he will be the one she ends up with. I adored Soren, despite him not having much screen time. I can’t wait to get to know him more. He’s my pick for Rhya’s final love interest.
I loved Jac.
I will say that despite being entertained throughout, nothing took me by surprise. The plot was predictable but the way it was delivered was fun and engaging and I didn’t mind feeling like I’d read this book before. I think the author has set up a lot in terms of Rhya’s relationships to characters because I think she wants it to hurt when she decides to burn it all down. Even so, I have enjoyed getting to know these characters.
I enjoy the magic system but I wish we could’ve explored it more in this novel. I see a lot of potential. I’m disappointed I have to wait for the next book to learn more. I’m very keen to visit Soren’s kingdom and get to know more about him and his people.
I’d also like to note the sometimes the dialogue ran too long. At times, scenes were repetitive and felt like the author wanted to meet a word count. Other times, the dialogue flowed naturally, and I felt like the words written could actually be spoken by people rather than being words on a page.
I think my rating for this book and my feelings about it are heavily influenced by my expectations for the next book. If I think the author is setting up what I think she’s setting up, then I think these books will be among my favourites.
The Wind Weaver is reminiscent of A Court of Thorns and Roses with the sort of Stockholm syndrome romance and the hot-headed love interest. I sincerely hope that the author goes in a similar direction to the ACOTAR series in terms of the romance because I really cannot stomach much more of Penndefyre.
Worth the read though. I’m eagerly awaiting the reviews others will make for the next book so I can decide whether it’s worth reading or not. Please less Pendefyre fingers crossed!!
