It’s not bad, all the characters are just flat to me. If the next book gets good reviews, I’d be open to trying this again.

The Wind Weaver by Julie Johnson:⭐️⭐️⭐️✨3.5 Stars!🌶️Spice!
Summary: Rhya is a halfling which makes her a target but right before her death, an unwanted captor takes her to the Northlands. There Rhya learns about the maegic coursing through her. Penn, her captor, vows to keep her safe but the secrets are never ending & Rhya must master the maegic before it consumes her.
Review: I think this was a good first book in a series. It’s a lot of detail/information & world/character building but I didn’t mind it. It’s not overly packed with action, there were some slow parts, and it needed to be much shorter, but it does a good job setting up the series.
Rhya is the FMC and I’m not going to lie, she is pretty clueless when it comes to maegic but I don’t blame her bc no one told her anything her whole life 😆 I did like how she had some healing and bow & arrow knowledge but she didn’t stand out & at times acted immature. I did like her relationship with the side characters bc they brought comedic relief. Penn is the MMC and I didn’t love him, he too broody, standoffish, and rude bc he is never around & never makes an effort to help Rhya but claims he cares for her. I did enjoy when he finally started opening up to Rhya, but it never lasted long. This is a slow burn and it takes awhile for anything to happen but there is some tension and banter. However, I can’t help but wonder if Penn actually cares for Rhya or if it’s bc of other reasons. Their romance seems a little off so I’m hoping that comes together better in the second book as well as the spice. This book didn’t have spice which is fine, but I was a little surprised by that. However, I loved all the side characters, especially Soren! I am very curious about him! 👀
The ending was exactly what I wanted from this book bc the action was exceptional and I loved seeing Rhya come into her power! I enjoyed learning of the maegic system and the Remnants but I hope we get more explanations in the next book. Also, the beasts were fun but a little random! A lot of clues were left and I will continue the series! If you’re looking for a book with forced proximity & found family - The Wind Weaver is for you 🌬️

The Wind Weaver
⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was definitely not on my radar until I got it in last month’s fairyloot box. 😍 they always win me over with the sprayed edges!
Rhya is saved at the last second before an execution and taken farther than she’s ever been into the mountains. Once she learns of her wind powers, she has to find who she’ll use them to protect.
I really struggled with this one a lot. There were so many different things that were happening that didn’t all seem to build together. There was a ton of different magical elements that all appeared at random times. I also didn’t love the main character here. 😒
Beautiful prose! The writing is so magnificent that sometimes you don't even realize that not a lot of action occurred, yet you're not bored. The beginning sucks you right into action immediately via kidnapping by the bad guys and the world building is staged incrementally as Rhya slowly discovers where she is and in whose company.

𝙍𝙝𝙮𝙖 - She is a halfling that is being hunted/captured by the mortals who want to do away with all things magic. Although she doesn’t fully understand her magical abilities, she is on her way to a fiery death. That is until she is taken by the “Scythe” who ends up saving her life. Rhya is such a strong, fierce character. What a spitfire - I love her sass so much!
𝙎𝙘𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙚/𝙋𝙚𝙣𝙣 - He is grumpy helmet wearing commander with so many secrets. He saves Rhya from death and takes her to his kingdom where he trains her to use her magic and reveals an ancient prophecy that they are part of! .

𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This book is just a reminder as to why I love Romantasy! The Wind Weaver is the first book that I have read by Julie Johnson and it won't be the last! I absolutely loved this cover!
I enjoyed this writing/plot so much. What great world building and so many adventures. That said,I do feel that at times it had pacing issues and could have been a little shorter than its 500+ pages. I love the character development - the tension between Penn and Soren. It gives such an ACOTAR vibe! This book is loaded with angst and banter. I love the elemental magic added to the story. My only real complaint is that I wish this book was a dual POV.
This is such a great start to the series. I am SO excited to read the upcoming books!
