Enjoyable but Pen does not have enough redeeming qualities considering how much of an arse he is, plus the story could have been 100 pages shorter easily... felt a bit 'and then this happened and then this and then this rather than Y happened because X happened which affected Z' at points

This book is good but wow did it take me so long to get through! The first half I flew through but the second, not so much. Whilst all of this book is good I did feel there was a dip and it felt like a fantasy romance that I’ve come across before.

Having said that, I still really enjoyed this but I feel the length of time it took to read this reduced my attachment to it. I’ll definitely carry on with this series, there’s so much great potential.

I did DNF this book but as I got 50% through I’m taking it as read because I tried!

The fact is this book didn’t work for me. The pacing was too slow and inconsistent. If it had been more action packed at the start (and considering Rhya was taken by Scythe/Penn and being chased by unseen pursuers you’d think it would be more fast paced). It was so slow trying build Scythe as the love interest as well. He didn’t take his helmet off for like the first quarter of the book it felt like.

As the book started to get interesting it then hinted at a love triangle to come and I was like seriously? Have we not moved past such boring things? I’ve read reviews and it seems it’s not an issue in this book but definitely is building to something.

The fact is the plot isn’t the same by this just felt too much like ACOTAR vibes and I am not here for that. The writing isn’t bad, I appreciated there was no info dump at the start in the form of world building. I think it was just a bit too slow. I would have liked more development to start and then a faster paced plot through the next part of the book.
