4.5. Not a thriller but definitely psychological. I ate this up.

Edit 5 minutes later: omg I just realized why it’s called The Push…
emotional mysterious reflective sad fast-paced

Motherhood, losing your identity as a woman after giving birth, and the relationship between mothers and daughters were the more interesting aspects of this one. Listened to the entire audiobook in one day; I just couldn’t put it down, despite my critiques of it.

I don’t typically read fiction, but this really did it for me.

Wow. I had no idea what to expect with this one- I picked it up after a friend’s 5 star wordless review. This is not for everyone but really well done.

3.6ish I’m confused by the ending… maybe if I get some clarity I’ll change my rating. But there were times I really wanted the story to just end because it dragged towards the end.

We need to talk about Violet.
Domestic thrillers are always a hit or miss for me, and this fell right in the middle. I liked the set up for the novel in the first half, and the intergenerational aspect of the story, but felt like things really slowed down in the last half, only barely picking up towards the end. I think I would have enjoyed the book more if the last half was much shorter and matched the pacing of the first half. I’ve seen reviews complaining about the ending, but I thought the ended made the book better. I think, in this case, giving the novel such a definitive conclusion really made the story stronger.

I am not a mother. Strange way to begin a review? Maybe, however the intensity in which the author portrays this woman, this mother, made me hold my breath and wince perhaps as a mother would thinking these thoughts. I almost stopped this story but something kept pulling me back in. I won’t forget this character quickly though for my emotional sanity I probably should. Wow.
