Story was good just a lot left unfinished/unresolved in the end which I didn't like. Felt like it was a set up to do a spin off book with Mari and Griffin which is fine but just kind of annoying. Overall the writing of ending was just like a little chaotic like all the sudden Mari is really good at witchcraft despite being bad up until like a few days before...okay Just felt like the author wasn't 100% sure how to finish the book and tie all the ends up.
When I finished book 2, I wished for less emotion and more action —- this final book of the Dawn of Onyx definitely delivered. I constantly felt like I was catching my breath as one scenario led to another. One quest led to them having to get some other piece of the puzzle, which led to another. And just when you think you know what is about to happen, you realize you were completely wrong.
I did the audiobook for this one, which was great but I wish I had the physical copy as well as I found there were so many characters to remember. I *almost* needed a character key bc I found myself asking “wait who is that again” a couple of times.
I only give 5 ⭐️ to books that I would reread and this series is one that is worthy of a reread (which I rarely do).
I’m not huge on all the spice so I did fast forward through chapter 36 (in case you want to skip past as well, though there were other shorter scenes but I can’t remember the exact chapters).
Another spin off series is set up throughout this book but mainly at the end with Mari and Griffin. I will auto buy the crap out of that one.
