The author said she struggled to write this third book and that is abundantly clear.
The plot drags on.Who the F is Adelaide? How does the fmc suddenly know how to use her magic? What was the point in the second romance building?
This trilogy started well but fizzled as it went on. In a sea of romantasy books it's plot and characters are forgettable.

A Rein of Rose suffers from an ailment with no name but symptoms consist of annoying characters, long and dreary middle, and a beautiful well written gut clenching end.
At the beginning I almost dnf just because of how sorry and annoying Kane was. It was almost unbearable! Like man up and be a king, I get his need to become full-fae but that, in the long run, did absolutely nothing for anything. His wining and crippling self worth was horrible to read. There are ways to grieve but the emotional, self deprecating way was not it.
Not only that, a big flaw I noticed in this series is we didn’t spend enough time with the supporting character. I still have no idea how they had some but not all alliances. A lot of the politics and the decisions some rulers made just didn't make sense to me. It is entirely possible that I just wasn't interested enough that I didn't get the joke but I was lost a good portion of the book.
But just like the 2nd book, that ending was beautiful, it was gut wrenching, it was clever, it was great. That is the sole reason why it was 3 stars instead of 2. The epilogue was fine, nothing special, I kinda figured how it was going to go. The only thing I was surprised about was that Mari and Griffon didn't get together.

This last book of the series definitely felt more high stake and a little more high fantasy than I remembered the previous books being while still remaining highly romantic. I couldn’t stop thinking about this book and wanting to read it. Objectively, the entire series might not be perfect for everyone, but I personally enjoyed every moment of it. I hope we get a spin-off series about Mari and Griffin!

a review on the whole series: this was a good trilogy and had great characters (names tho are kinda sus lol). i thought the writing was well done and character development is evident as you get further into the series. the plot for the most part was fast paced and the author had a really fun take on “shapeshifting” (can’t say more bc spoilers).
for some reason though this series just seems kinda forgettable for me, there is very little that seemed unique to these characters and the FMC and MMC are basically carbon copies of the “weak but has special powers” and “morally gray”.
with that said i loved the author’s writing so i will be reading her new series when it comes out!!
