I liked this one even more than the first in this trilogy, which I already really enjoyed! I'm don't think it was because they are each by different authors since at the start of this one I could tell I didn't connect with the author's writing style quite as quickly as I did the first. I think it was the way the story was told, which is always more important in the end. This one is second chance (a fave trope of mine), and single mom (another fave as far as seeing the MMC fall for the kid(s) too). In this case, Rowan went full girl dad for Violette's 3-4 year old daughter before she even fully accepted him back and it was adorable. He's another hotshot (wildland firefighter) and she's back in town years after her twin brother died working with their crew, but even before that she was distant because this guy broke her heart. She doesn't know the real reason that happened, and there is some forced proximity (another fave) when he's injured on the job and she's the nurse in the burn unit he's sent to. There were a few inconsistencies here and there or things that made me think "this is a different vibe than the first one for this person", which I'm sure is difficult to nail when each book is written by someone different and include the same characters, so it was easy to forgive but did niggle at me every time. Book three is next because these have captured my mood reader brain's full attention.

Thoughts:
Miss hope does not disappoint. I love that our MMC Rowan knows from the start what he let got of, and he’s not afraid to shoot his shot to get Violette back. The banter in this book had me howling at moments, the tension was scrumptious. We had some super Woolworths moments. I absolutely loved the relationship between Rowan and Vi daughter, it was so sweet and heartwarming. And that spice? Was really spicing!

Favourite Moments:

“Now I’m really pissing her off, but at least I have her attention.”

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you rarely get second chances in life, so if this is the universe giving me one. I’m taking it.”

This one was fine, didn’t capture the magic of the first book but wasn’t bad.

it didn’t feel like there was enough angst for me in this book to really feel deeply about it. Also the stuff with them as teenagers felt the same as them ten years later and it felt like it should have been a little messier or something. Also Violettes body was a prominent point but she was definitely not plus size and not that you have to be plus size to have insecurities but it just didn’t really make sense that she was called fat but that other girl when she just wasn’t? Or that Rowan constantly talked about her curves but then would follow it with up with a comment about her tiny waist or something. Idk maybe that’s nit-picky and it certainly didn’t ruin the book for me or anything it was just an observation. Back to Rowan and Violette, I did love them together and the way Rowan knew she was it and just wanted to love her was so special! I’m excited to read Teddy and Xanders story next I think it’s the one I was most looking forward to! I will also mention that this series deals so heavily with death and grief every book a different person has lost a loved one and it can be a lot.
