I hadn't read the 3rd volume in a while and forgot where I left off. The beginning of this volume was traumatic, but Guts gets revenge and is shown to still live with his trauma. It gives his character more nuance, though I wish it hadn't been that kind of betrayal.
It's interesting meeting Griffith, though we know he's going to be betrayed again in the future.

Really enjoyed learning about Guts' origin and development as a character from childhood in this entry and his meeting up with Griffith and the Hawks.

Pacing was good, though slower than the previous volume for obvious reasons, it's clearly intentional and gives more time to get to know Guts as a character, which I'm glad of

This round was more back story than anything. Gave more insight on the 5th God hand and how they came to know eachother.

Definitely interesting getting to see how Guts ended up being the way that he is ... not exactly fun in any way, shape or form but definitely explains a lot. PTSD will do that I guess ...

I am for sure interested in seeing how the things set up develop, especially the dynamic between Guts and Griffith considering that whole deal in the third volume. Speaking of, it is kind of insane how homoerotic they made almost every single interaction between those two and uhhhh I guess we shall see where that ends up going (I imagine nowhere good).

Looking forward to getting to know the Band of the Hawk better in future volumes and seeing how things get worse, but have cool action happen at the same time. I get the feeling I might enjoy this more after the fact, as it probably sets up a fair few future things and I will get to know the characters better so I guess we shall see.
