Sequel to The Firm with lawyer Mitch now living in NY. The story ends up being an international political thriller which is fine but there are some holes. 1) Mitch moves to NY to escape the mob from Memphis and claims no one knows about him. 2) Mitch travels back to Memphis for work and one of the partners from the original firm is bitter about what went down. Mitch seems really offended by this. 3) The story has a complicated international kidnapping/ransom story that seems a bit unbelievable for me. Vacation read.
Gimme gimme all the John Grisham books! This is a sequel to The Firm and I enjoyed it. Lots of globetrotting and overall an excellent legal thriller!
For the people who ask, "Should I read The Firm before I read The Exchange?" my answer is, "Read The Firm instead of reading The Exchange."
What was John Grisham thinking? The book is so slow that it hardly seems to move. If Mitch McDeere was troubled by the same data being recycled and presented to him, I was more bothered by the representation of this done ad nauseum. The fastest part of the book I got through was the last 20%, and that too by skipping entire paragraphs.
Grisham brought back Jake Brigance in A Time for Mercy and that was a disaster and now the return of Mitch McDeere is even worse if at all possible.

This book shows that John Grisham has learned enough tricks to write a page-turner thriller with absolutely no substance.
I liked this book pretty well. I’m glad Giovanna was okay in the end but that stinks that they had to transfer the money to the terrorists to make sure she was okay. I do have two questions though: whatever happened to that guy on death row at the beginning of the book? I don’t even remember his name. And maybe I just don’t remember, but why was Mitch in Africa in the first place? Also, like other John Grisham novels, there seemed to be lots of characters and no one was very well developed.
The ending set up for a sequel - please no more Mitch Mc Deere with convoluted, boring plots. This was not a good follow up to "The Firm".

Just like all of John Grisham’s books, I didn’t want to put this one down! I enjoyed meeting up with Mitch and Abby again. It is a nail biter.
