I am a longtime Grisham fan and wow did this suck. No real plot, no bumps, no twists, and the characters could’ve been any cardboard cutouts. Calling them “Mitch and Abby McDeere” was only to bump sales of what is otherwise a thoroughly boring read.

I’m sorry, but no. This is the most ridiculous future for our hero. No, no, no. Also, getting very sick of death row related stories from Mr. Grisham. He seems a bit obsessed with this and his books that do not deal with this topic (the chamber excluded) are all much better reads.

I suppose maybe I liked this one a little better than The FIrm in some ways but also...it sucked. There was no point to the whole thing...basically there was a kidnapping by who knows who cause that was never explained....who knew way more than they should have...but the person was just paid off and it all ended well. WTF was the point to the whole thing...so many weird things were inttroduced that were totally irrelevant. Why the return to Memphis for no reason, how did the kidnappers know about his Cayman Island money, why did G go missing after the payoff and then they just give her back. Seriously, WTF was the point of this whole thing.

3.5 out of 5 stars.
This was a quick, enjoyable read and it was fun to see where Mitch and Abby were up to after The Firm. The Firm is much better though, in my opinion and I've read much worse from Grisham.

3.5 stars. I think if you've read The Firm and were a fan then you should pick this one up. It's not as strong of a book as The Firm - the character development was fairly week, and the plot was a bit unrealistic at times. I thought the read was pretty entertaining overall, but not my favorite by Grisham.

2024: Am I supposed to like Mitch? Or any of his coworkers? Or his family? What a bunch of privileged bores.

It doesn't seem like a sequel to The Firm, except for the presence of two main characters.

Mitch didn't do legal work, but rather bureaucratic and money-raising work.

At the beginning, the book focuses on a story that in the end has nothing to do with the rest of the story.
