Not up to the usual quality of John Grisham. The first part of the book could have been easily omitted; it just seemed to be filler. The latter part was the meat of the book and deserves a 4-star rating for the plot, pace, and tension as the McDeere's struggle to implement the rescue of a law associate.
A lot of unanswered questions.
Still an interesting book, there were loose ends left loose. And a lot of time was spent over explaining filler on the story. Not the best book I’ve read from the author.

I usually love John Grisham, but I agree with the other reviewers — I’m convinced he didn’t write this.

I stopped reading when I was 25% in and NOTHING had happened. Beautiful descriptions of people and places abounded, but I had zero interest because I had been given nothing to be invested in anyone or any place. Boring!
Just re-read The Firm. Aside from using the two lead names (not even their personalities) from that book, this one has nothing to do with it. Not even close to a sequel. Boring, tedious, skippable.
The Exchange by John Grisham is the sequel to The Firm, one of the author’s most popular books. Mitch McDeere returns, this time in New York City, where he lives with Abby and two young sons. He now works for the world’s largest law firm and his job will take him to Italy, the UK and the Middle East. The thriller moves at top speed and keeps the reader engaged at all times. There is quite a bit of very graphic violence, but it is not gratuitous as this is used as a tool to tell a story and create urgency. John Grisham does not disappoint and neither does Mitch McDeere. The author does well in blending these two novels. If edge-of-your-seat tension is something you enjoy, then this book is for you. Highly recommended.
I think giving this book two stars might be generous. While claiming to be a follow-up to The Firm, the events of that first novel are barely touched upon. This novel is boring and uneventful. Even the end, while it had the smallest amount of tension, lacked any kind of emotional payoff. I haven’t read a John Grisham novel in some time and I’m sorry that I read this one.
It was good. I enjoy the characters Mitch and Abby. I was hoping there would be a twist or some BANG of an ending - but it ended rather quietly.
Still enjoyed it.
