I love John Grisham writing style, he has this wonderful way to get you so involved in the story that you always want more and can't stop turning the pages till the end.
The Exchange is a sequel to his classic novel The Firm ( can't wait to read that one btw), I personally can't conpare the two, obviously, but despite a really strong opening, the story just falls flat at the end.
I read the french edition, which had a different title ( Le réseau - the ring), i suppose it might have been misleading since the story was just about a hostage exchange and had nothing to do with what that edition's title was alluding to.
My only issue with this novel, is the end felt rushed, it felt like Grisham just wanted to wrap it up and be done with that book. It was way too easy, many questions were never answered.
We still didn't find out, who the terrorists were and their motives, why they were targeting a law firm, why the guards were executed and seen as "traitors" to their nation.
Well it was my second Grisham novel, and i had the same complaints for the first one, he leaves too many holes in the story, the end was too underwhelming
But i would still recommend this book, John Grisham has his way with words, writing is an art and Grisham is an artist.

Boring.
I have been a fan of Grisham for many years, his style grips you and pushes the pace throughout. This book was enjoyable, but I saw no reason why it needed to be a sequel to The Firm instead of a standalone novel with new characters with actual backstories instead of fleeting references to The McDeeres and their past adventures 15 years ago.
I was a little disappointed by this story but can’t elaborate without spoiling it for others.
In addition to some plot holes (in my opinion), the pacing seemed less-Grishamy.

Turmoil in Libya, high stakes negotiations, and a bridge to nowhere. In The Exchange, we get to find out what happened to Mitch and Abby after The Firm. It's a slow, bumpy ride, but hang on for the twists and turns at the end.
MY BOY. I LOVE MY WEIRD MAFIA-ENTANGLED BOY AND HIS SILLY SCHEMES. I can't waaaaaaait!!
i need it to be as ridiculous and silly as the firm ever was
~*~*~
Shoulda left my boy floating in the Caribbean with all his money and his waifu and felony brother
It would have been two stars for being a semi lame kinda boring thriller but it crashes into one star for being a pointless money grab and including two favorite characters in a pointless plot.
Better review later but right now I’m kinda just mad and would like to reread the firm to get these limp characters out of my head and return my old favorites
(Also, Grisham uses some words and phrases and things that are….uh……..dated, to put it nicely. And I’d like to not put it nicely)
(Man, I bought this as a Christmas gift for my dad and now I don’t wanna give it to him.)
