This is really 3.5 almost 4, I just can’t bring myself to give it a 4. This book is a really easy read if you like dark fantasy romance, but there definitely are some problems with it. I’ve seen a lot of reviews on this book hating the FMC, and I definitely don’t like her, but I think some takes a little harsh. Reyna is presented to us as a character who thinks of herself as strong and defiant, but she is just defiant and can’t back it up. She is one of those characters that talks back at every given moment but when actually faced with trouble, she shows no strength or resilience. The prince and Reyna’s relationship is definitely a slow burn with nothing really coming from the first book, the most we got was a chapter with heavy flirting and then a wet dream from Reyna. Reyna specifically showed an unnecessary hatred towards the prince, there were many points where she should have some built trust towards him but refuses to let it happen. All relationship and character dynamics beside, the build up in this book was far too much. The plot actually starts about halfway into the book, leaving little room for much development. I feel like there still a lot of confusion left in me after the first book and not in a good way. None of the questions presented were answered, and left us in the middle of a scene for the cliffhanger. The cliffhanger feels poorly written and little like a cash grab.
Overall the book was enjoyable, and a fun read especially if you have Kindle Unlimited. I finished this in 2 days and will start the second book soon.

Court of Raven and Ruin part of the Shadow Bound Queen series by Eliza Raine. Follows the FMC Reyna through the life and perils of a human living in a Yggdrasil and being a rune marked.
This book hits all the feels! From the incredible world building to the deep character creation. The bond that Reyna has with the other rune marked humans in the gold court. From word go I was so invested in them.
The complicated MMC was a joy to read, feeling both angry for Reyna but sorry and sympathy for Maz.
If you want a new dark fantasy obsession then I highly recommend this series!
