This book helped me understand the human costs of armed conflict in a new way through a variety of short stories told from different perspectives. The writing was descriptive and some passages were shocking and disturbing. An important read.
Many military abbreviations were used (hundreds of them) and while I looked some up, I glossed over others. I wish that the book had a glossary of terms!

This book is actually a 3.5, but I move it up because of the emotional impact it had, and the respect is imbues for the hell those who serve our country go through. Redeployment plays out like a series of interrelated short stories that look to color a vague picture that was the Iraq War. I may not be pro-war, but Phil Klay has given me even more reasons to respect our military service men and women than I already had.
Even more, I couldn’t read the book without thinking of my three grandfathers that served, whom I love and revere.

"Yeah, the men's department." << not from the book, but a joke that was on my mind while I read it, nonetheless.
I feel like trying to describe this book would be a disservice to it. I'm glad it exists and that I read it; everyone should.

Really interesting book. It took me kind of an embarrassingly long time to realize that it was really a series of short stories...I kept trying to figure out why the guy had so many totally varied positions in the military but by chapter 3 I had it figured out-LOL and I am still not really clear on how much is fiction and how much is non-fiction but no matter....it was a really interesting read for me.
