Like fuck, I can’t rate this as anything less that 5 stars and amazing because the writing is so so so good but I’m absolutely fucking devastated and crying in the fetal position. Read this, but have tissues nearby.
**Reread 11/23/20-11/24/20. I was reading Papie’s updates as they read this and so then I had to go and be a reread stalker as usual. Still don’t know what to say for a review. Still emotionally devastated. Still love Liam and Mike.
I’ve still not been doing many reviews lately. However, even if I were, I highly doubt anything I could write would do this book justice. I don’t often cry over books but when I finished this one, I was in tears. And it wasn’t just the ending. It was the whole journey of Liam and Mike. The book spanned over twelve years and by the end, I felt like I had lived those years with them. I got more than I bargained for with this beautiful book and perfectly imperfect love story. This will for sure be on my best books of 2019 list.

This book will tear you up and leave you staring at the wreckage asking for more. It haunts me. I can’t stop thinking about it or the characters. It was far too short a journey that covers 17 yrs in the life of Mike & Liam’s relationship. And it’s not enough. Not nearly enough.
This book has the same dynamic between the two main characters as Alexis Hall’s Glitterland: the depressive, self-loathing, damaged misanthrope and the irrepressible champagne bubble of a human who never takes no for an answer. And It. Is. Adorable.
[The author’s use of the F word 687 times is truly impressive. That’s dedication to verisimilitude.

This is one of the most intense book I've read this year. I started it yesterday at 11pm and couldn't put it down.
The writing style is very different from all the books I've read before and I wasn't too convinced by it the first few chapters but it works. It works really well.
I'm a big fan of hockey romances but this is certainly not your regular romance.
It's a story about life and how raw and intense it is, but also how cruel and unfair it can be.
It is a tough book to read but it is totally worth it.

Awwww just lovely.
So glad I read this.
So the guys get together (kind of) while they are both working. The book then follows their relationship for the next 15 years and it’s lovely.
One of the guys is an enforcer before he stops playing hockey.
The thing is, this could be any other of the many hockey romances I love, just following the relationship a bit longer.

I made the mistake of reading the reviews before I picked this up. I recommend going into this knowing this is an emotional and exceptionally well written sports romance, and nothing more. Really, I applaud the writing when compared to most other sports romance. So refreshing when the characters' behavior or reactions don't make me cringe.
Like I said, I knew going in that this was going to be a tear jerker. And that one of the main characters was going to die. It soon became apparent which one, and I kept getting emotional about the weirdest things, throughout, knowing where things were headed. In the end, I full on cried for the last couple of chapters. In the beginning the book was a little unexpectedly smutty, but that's basically just a part of laying down the groundwork. This book is mostly about love. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Not gonna lie, I'm still crying.

3.5 stars
I knew what I wanted out of this book and I wasn’t getting it for the first half, so I was on the fence for a good while and that does paint a darker picture of my rating overall. After the halfway point and it taking a left turn, the story finally did come into itself and became worthwhile to me.
So, the issues.
The story here is good although for me personally the writing style took an adjustment period.
The main problem for me though was a good 50% is smut with seemingly no direction until you’re suddenly hit with plot. I don’t need a whole lot of plot to enjoy a book, but I do need a lot more than smut for hundred some pages that you end up rolling eyes over or skimming because you want to know more about the characters than just their sexy time life.
My other big issue: the relationship. Don’t get me wrong. I like Liam and Mike together. They have chemistry. I Just have no idea why Liam fell for Mike in the first place, and don’t feel as if I witnessed it. In other words, instalove where I didn’t expect nor want to see instalove (not that I ever do).
The best parts:
It became what I was looking for in the end! A somber, melancholy and heart aching read. And I love reading hockey romances so all the more love for that.
