This was cute and entertaining, but really not much else. It mentioned events from the movie a lot, which felt really awkward, and the only characters that seemed to still have their personalities were Ben and Chad. The plot was silly and very easily solved by the core four, especially the whole four talismans bit.
I also felt like the whole Anti-Hero thing was unrealistic. Like, maybe on a smaller scale it would make sense but almost every child? That was a cool twist, but I couldn't really see it being true.
I think for the target age group, this would have been a bigger hit. It was fun, with familiar characters doing their PG thing. It just wasn't one of the really good middle grade stories that can be enjoyed by older age groups, too.
Still, I could be persuaded to read the next one.

Well that was fun! Loved it better then the first book.
I definitely didn't like this book as much as the first one. And I also know that it's a middle grade but this was a step down from the first book.
Everything went too well, literally, they had a mission where each of the villains had to get the talisman of their parents. Carlos de Vil had to get Cruella de Vil's ring of envy, Evie had to get the Evil Queen's poisoned apple, Jay had to get Jafar's cobra staff and Mal had to get a dragon's egg. The missions were completed so quickly I thought something bad was bound to happen but nope, that wasn't the case.
Will I read the next book? Yes. Will I like it? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This book was great.
I liked how it took place in both Auradon and the Isle of the Lost. It even briefly explored other places like Camelot, Neverland, and Charmington Cove (where Cinderella lives).
There were some new characters as well as characters from the movie. Also Ben had a larger role in this book than he did in the previous one.
I enjoyed the plot and the quest and everything fit together nicely.
The ending sets up a new movie and/or book perfectly. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Overall, a solid book in the Descendants franchise.

Loved the character growth that each character had after going through the journey to search for their parents talismans, especially Carlos for gaining the courage to stand up to his mother, even though it was just a vision. It was definitely a huge step for him, since he spent half of the time dreading to face his mother when the VKs went back to the Isle. Also, Ben was doing a pretty good job as a King, for a 16(?) years old. Loved that he stood up for Jay to Chad. The twist on the Anti-Heroes Club was definitely cool too. I do wonder what happened to those kids now that the VKs went back to Auradon. I hope they get to go to Auradon too at some point.
I picked this book up for the 2020 DesertAThon. It was my pick for the prompt of a book with a read cover.
I really like the general idea of the Descendants story line. I liked the movies a lot. Sadly, the first book was not really my cup of tea but the sequel sure gave me the feelings the movies gave me. I enjoyed reading it.
Will post a full review soon

2/5 stars. I was super confused when i startes reading it and only found out that it takes place after the first movie by reading the reviews on goodreads which was super confusing. The plotline was boring and not much happened
