Another idiot, underboss wannabe. You will think the same when you read the book.

The very idea of revenge is stupid. And the plot is sucked from the finger. The heroine is a doormat, up to the moment when she decides to entice the hero to follow her and seek her, which is completely at odds with her character. She is not an interesting personality at all, all her hurtings cause yawning.

Wow. Just wow! I loved it!

I had a lot of anticipation for this story. The Hunter was my first LJ Shen novel and I fell in love with her writing. As I continued to read her work I knew she could write dark well. Between her books Sparrow, The Hunter, and The Villian, I had so much curiosity for Sam’s character and I couldn’t wait. Then we have Aisling. The soft character you know can’t be that soft if she is paired with the King of Boston’s Underground.

I knew going into this Sam was going to destroy me, but Aisling, boy did I underestimate her. I loved her character. In a book called The Monster, she was perfection. It was a cat and mouse game, but you got enough each time to not be frustrated. The push and pull made sense. They both pushed and pulled at exactly the right time in the story. The way LJ brought them together, I loved it.

Somehow, all at the same time, this story seemed to finish what the book Sparrow started, completed the drama of the Fitzpatrick household, and left room open for Belle’s story to be told next. I absolutely loved this book!

Love the Monster

Aisling & Sam!
I just adored this story!
The story just pulled me in, I couldn’t put it down. I love this series and can’t wait for the rake!

I am so obsessed when each of the Belles books release to see how they would need to tame these men that have no regard for commitment! My heart aches along with Aisling at every hit Sam delivers, and that just shows how well this book is written! I tried to drag it over as long as I could so it wouldn’t end! Amazing read! Well done!

SAM MY MONSTER

LJ's books are one of the first romance books I read. As I got more into my reading journey, I did stay loyal but felt like I was outgrowing her books and writing style.

The Monster brought me right back to enjoying her. I personally feel like she has a talent for writing more gritty, morally challenged characters compared to other types. Sam Brennan did not disappoint.
He was everything a morally gray character should be.

I read several reviews stating that Aisling was a doormat, and I never once got that vibe. I read a girl who was obsessed with a man since she was 17 years old and that obsession never left. When the book jumps to the present time, she is 27 years old. A grown woman. She was never once a doormat for Sam, and really had no issues putting him in his place. Both her and Sam were relatively complex.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope that LJ continues to write books more like this than her normal "billionaire in a suit who is just a jerk for 2.5" story.

I was anticipating this book soo much, and let me tell you.. it did not disappoint!
Was it perfect? Eh, I guess not entirely. There were a couple particular lines that kinda rubbed me the wrong way and were never addressed later on, that is honestly the only reason why I can't really give this book the full 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adored the dynamic of the characters and their darkness and how they found each other in it. That's why I'm not particularly harsh at those instances I didn't like, because well.. they're so messed up in so many other ways and I guess as long as it works for them you know?

(Also I think maybe just far too much of what i've been reading lately has been mafia romance and I was kinda too sick of it at this point, so really the fact that I gave this anything above 2 stars shows how much i loved the characters and the author's writing in general lmao)

End of rant.

sam brennan is giving all of lj shen's male leads a run for their money lmfao

3.5 stars

Just like everyone else, I was insanely excited to finally get Sam’s story and I was not disappointed! Aisling and Sam’s story was so addictive and had so many swoon-worthy moments that I couldn’t put it down.
It was great to see Aisling and Sam’s relationship develop throughout this book, as we saw the characters mature as their relationship progressed. Although Aisling’s behaviour did make me cringe a few times, this definitely got better as the book went on and she began to stand up for herself. I was however slightly disappointed by the fact that there really weren’t many scenes of Sailor, Persy, Aisling and Belle together, their friendship is one of my favourite parts of this series so I definitely wish there was more friendship content, especially considering the series is named after the girls’ friendship group.
Overall, this was an enjoyable romance which had me swooning throughout. Definitely my favourite Boston Belles book so far!

I wanted to punch Sam every time he spoke
