This book fell short for me.
There was nothing interesting enough happening, and I found myself yawning.
I NEVER YAWN WHILE READING A BOOK.

The only word to describe Cornelia Funke's books is magical. Not only did she create a fantastic world, she also managed to put the feeling into words that every reader has from time to time: the longing to be in your favorite story. I love how she plays with this theme, makes you second guess but ultimately still has you aching for a different world.
The story itself is captivating. Inkspell is the kind of book that makes you smile, cry and hold your breath. There are moments were you are torn between wanting to know what happens next and being afraid of finding out what the pages will hold in store.
It is amazing that we finally get to explore the Inkworld itself instead of just reading about stories being told. I'm sure everybody who read Inkheart had been dying to find out what it's like.
Cornelia Funke has a way of surprising you with plot-twists that will break your heart. However, in the same moment she also awakens your hopes and you can't help but continue reading. The worst of it all: the cliffhanger at the end. Fortunately, I already had the third part waiting for me, otherwise I would have been really mad ;-)

Inkspell is a wonderful and magical book that will suck you right in. It exceeded all my expectations and I promise you'll love it too!

I am in love with the "Inkheart" books. I want to have children solely for the purpose of reading Funke's books to them. There were never any children's books that made the act of reading the focus of the books. Words are powerful, as is the art of writing. And Funke is a beautiful writer - she made me cry, which is not something I normally do with children's books. If you love reading and fantasy books, I urge you to pick up "Inkheart" and venture for the first time into the Inkworld. But, be forewarned: you may not want to leave.

Loved it!

It took me longer than normal to read this book. I think the first one was better but I did like all of the extra time with Dustfinger and the development of Meggie's relationship with Farid. It was written well and the plot was interesting but I felt like it dragged in some places. I am really looking forward to reading the next one.

Unlike some others I’ve actually enjoyed Brandon Fraser’s narration. While he did struggle with a few of the voices, he demonstrated great range considering the plethora of characters in this book. When I first started the first chapter I gasped at how mesmerizing his voice was. No wonder Funke chose him as her muse for Mo. the book is magical, sad, and adventurous. I wish there was more action but I believe Funke’s storytelling was limited considering the intended age range for the book. This made me fall in love with the series again, and made me remember why I loved books in the first place. A highly recommended edition.

I'm not sure why I don't like these books more. They are clever, well-written, and have interesting characters like bookbinders, book collectors, and manuscript illuminators. The story isn't boring, but I just don't find myself engaged. I think maybe the problem is that the books are straight up fantasy designed for the younger reader.
