I loved so much about this. The FMC comes on strong at first but her development is awesome. This books also has lots of hints of intersectionality which I think really accurately reflect the personality and development of each character. Also, fun! It is a little heavy handed if you’re reading this as an experienced reader but I think it’s the right amount of explanation and exposition for a teen. I would highly recommend this to anyone, though!!

This digital ARC was obtainable via NetGalley for an honest review!

When I first attempted to read this, I was not in the right headspace, so I did not finish. Recently, I decided to give "Twelfth Knight" a true chance and I am so glad I did. Most of these characters are not likeable at first. Bash and Olivia are the anomalies.

Viola grew on me fast once I had seen how everyone treated her. I began to grow a soft spot for her. Normally, labeled as b****, Vi turns out to be more than that. The people who assassinate her character are actually worse than her. She is honest majority of the times and often misunderstood. I found it refreshing that Vi did try to stand up for herself when need be. Maybe she needs a few lessons on how to soften the blow, but I understand.

Jack was most definitely getting on my nerves with him not taking care of his responsibilities while essentially forcing Vi to do so. However, he grew on me too. The character development of Viola & Jack was done well. Their romance was pretty sweet too. Also, I love the gaming aspects. Overall, this was a good solid book. I will be purchasing a copy once it has been released!

Vi Reyes is kinda giving me Kat Stratford vibes. Obviously, she doesn't drive into an as*holes car with the word "Oops", but I love the female rage she portrays. It's wonderful to see a woman not people please her way through life.

This book got me out of a 6 month reading slump, and I was so freaking happy that I found it! It pulled me into the story right away, which was exactly the feeling I missed.

The storyline is amazing and kinda unexpected. I love that it subverts the typical expectations for this genre.

The romance is slow burn and starts pretty late in the book. So it's not a typical rom-com. Nevertheless I love the developing relationships in the book between the characters, not just the FMC and MMC.

I wish we'd gotten to see Vi and Jack happy together for a little bit longer. At the same time, I know we didn't miss much, as we've gotten to know both characters very well individually.
I was just hoping for some kind of epilogue of the characters being together further down the road to see how their relationship develops, maybe find out what university Vi is planning to attend, see if they have longer term potential.

Either way, I absolutely love this book and it's characters. It gave me the early 2000s Shakespeare retelling vibes I was hoping for and so much more.
