A little disappointed that the MM romance didn't get as much depth/detail as the MF ones in previous books.

Not my favorite of the series, but still an entertaining read. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade meets Men at Arms meets Redwall.

At this point I would be SHOCKED if I didn’t love a book in the Saint of Steel series.

To start what an amazing main cast. Piper was so sweet and funny, I absolutely loved him from the jump. He felt so relatable and I loved how his powers impacted how he interacted with the world. The there was Galen. His struggles with losing his god had always been interesting to me, even more in book two, but this really focused in on it. Learning more about his history and struggles was amazing and his trauma felt really well handled. Then there was Ear-Stripe and WOW can I just say I love him? He was so funny and knoll culture was so fascinating to learn about through him. He also allowed a really solid insight on the police force and its corruption and inherent racism, which I personally really liked the analysis and critique of.

The relationship development for Piper and Galen was also just so wonderful. Even though I thought it happened rather quickly, the way they played off each other helped remedy that for me. I thought they were really funny as a pair and watching them be done bad for one another and slowly grow into genuine love and care was super sweet.

I thought the world building, as always, was really well done. I never felt like I was getting an info dump and I always felt like the information I was being given was plot relevant. Gnoll culture especially was super interesting to read about. The way that their gender and name system works AND how they interact with outsiders was super interesting. I also liked the world building on the Ancients. While there was a lot of information given, it never felt like it ruined the mystery behind them or that the book had given us everything. It very much felt like the book had only scratched the surface.

Overall this was a great read and once again I cannot recommend the Saint of Steel series enough. Super excited to read the last book!

This was fun because I liked the characters and their dynamics but while the plot was interesting, it didn't connect with the first two books, which is sad and I'm confused but also intrigued as to
what the ancients have to do with this world

You wanted a queer pairing in the Saint of Steel series? T. Kingfisher delivers in one of the darkest installments of the series. Lovers of Edgar Allan Poe/Gothic literature and Nettle and Bone should not miss out!

This is the only book in this series where I felt a stronger tie to the love interest, rather than the Paladin—and that still feels right. T. Kingfisher plays with her own formula here in ways that keeps the series feeling fresh and continues to capture lightning in a bottle for my ideal romance. Galen may be one of the least likable paladins in the series at times, but the payoff is so rewarding when he is finally humbled.

I can't wait for my bestie to read this series—I'm eager to hear what she thinks of this one!

Tragically shorter than the other paladin books, thus making for less going on, less time to let things develop, but what was there was your typical Paladin intrigue, chaos, and romance. The mystery is especially strong in this narrative, but it all leads to a massive cliffhanger we are still waiting to hear more about.
