Finally finished by second book by one of the Brontë sisters, and this one had been recommended to me in surplus. Victorian literature is not my favorite era of literature, but I do enjoy the melodrama. I felt that, while a romance, this story had a unique quality to it, as it seemed to focus on the essence of Jane's life rather than her romance. She has a distinct personality separate from any love interest from an early age, and it chronicles her life rather than just a budding romance. I felt that there were times where the prose was a little too excess, but that's merely characteristic of the period. It was, overall, a relatively engaging story, and I understand why it is widely studied.

I see why it’s a classic. Beautifully written. Made my heart go pitter patter :)

I had to read this classic for a college class I’m taking.

I liked this book but I did not like how Jane Eyre was treated the whole time.

And if I were Jane Eyre, I would have heeded Mrs. Fairfax’s advice about Mr. Rochester.

Frankly I prefer her sisters' writings, Anne for her modernism and Emily for her passion and her poetry. Tragic the three should have died so young, how much great literature we missed out on. I tried to read this in a day, I show the attempt on my YouTube channel jane eyre challenge 2020, I failed, I managed to read 2/3 of the novel. I finished it four days after the attempt. It is quite easy to follow for a classic, as it is told in the first person. There is some problematic racism, Charlotte describes Mrs. Reed, a hateful character till the day she dies, as having “dark and opaque” skin. And she writes of John Reed, Jane’s spoiled and entitled male cousin, that “ . . . he called his mother, ‘old girl,’ too; sometimes reviled her for her dark skin, similar to his own . . . ”

Jane Eyre. This was an intriguing read, started of slow paced, but a few surprises along the way, keeps the pace changing, the reader intrigued but interested. A surprising end to say the least.

This character never ceases to surprise, and Bronte writing style helps getting you hooked as the story unfolds. This book does defy its time, and for my first attempt at any work by the Bronte sisters I'm plesently surprised. Really good.

Sigo amando demasiado está historia, sigo odiando el final
