cute ig, no literary master piece, but it was a quick read, would have preferred more existential dread tho? like is that just me?
overall i have some thoughts, not issues per se but things i would have preferred to be different, but yeah
i think that i need to add that i went into this book wanting an enemies-to-lovers trope cliché shallow book to distract me from the mountains of work and school that are in my life rn so i very much expected what it was going to be like and therefore none of the absolutely ridiculous things and plot points bothered me, something that would definitely have been different if that hadn’t been the premise

Oh man the pacing was so bad and rushed and i thought this was gonna be more focused on their romance but in the end all i got was teen friends doing teen stuff and an attempt to love triangle that no one wanted to be a part of
Really disappointing:(
Really disappointing:(
I loved the concept for this novel, but the characters and plot fell flat for me. I think multiple narrators would have helped develop the characters a bit more. Overall, they were bland and made the sci-fi alternative world more unbelievable. I found myself caring more about Trevor and Natalie's relationship over the main love triangle. Even so, I look forward to [a:Cale Dietrich|14541076|Cale Dietrich|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1476137270p2/14541076.jpg]'s next book!
1.5 stars
Oh boy. Oh boy.Oh boy.
That, is by far, the most disappointing read of 2017.And to think, I was excited to read this.Ughh.
A book needs something going its way to be interesting, anything. This book had nothing going its way.The initial 30% was so boring, I thought: I am probably going to sleep through it.

But I didn't and I have never been more proud of myself.
MY INITIAL THOUGHTS: (Around 30%)
⚫ Maybe this will get better
⚫ This would have been better if it was dual POV
⚫ Poor Juliet, she has no idea what's going on
⚫ This is becoming boring, but I have hope.
ME AROUND 70% of this book:
⚫ I take everything back, I hate Dylan.I don't want his POV.
⚫ I hate everyone.What's happening???
⚫ Oh no.NOOO.NOOOOOOOOO
⚫ There are way too exclamation points! What's up with that? I understand he is excited but... Why?
In short:
@ThePlot

@TheCharacters

And there were some phrases that just made everything weird:
confidence-killing meatiness
".......seem like a tortured soul who is lashing out, because I can't handle all the epic, sexy pain within me."
--pain is not sexy, mate.
You get the gist of it, I hope.That was not what I expected at all.
The Love Interest is not a bad book, but it doesn't live up to its many ambitious promises. The premise and pacing were strong enough to pull me through the lackluster prose and surface-level storytelling. It was entertaining enough - just disappointing given how excited I was about it.
i mean, i wasn't expecting a work of scintillating genius, but bad YA is baaaaaad, man
las primeras dos partes me estaban gustando bastante, es más, las leí súper rápido como en un día, pero ya la tercera parte es terrible y el final no me gustó nada
Man, I had such high hopes for this book.
Subversion of the love triangle and making it gay sounds amazing on paper; while the set up sounds amazing, it falls apart in pace, execution and characterization.
The characters could have been great, but was wasted for the sake of moving along the main plot, which already moving ahead too fast. You only get small moments with the side characters, not leaving too much of an impact.
Oddly enough, I feel the girls in the story were the gems of the story, if only explored a bit more. I was honest to god, hoping Caden and his fake mom had a scene in which they just talked about her past and she gave some advice about the potential heartache that can result from such a situation. I wanted to know more about Natalie and her backstory- again, I wanted her to talk to the lead about the guilt of killing another person as a result of winning, maybe even mentioning some details about the other girl. Hell, I wanted to know what the hell happened to Kaylee at the end of all this.
The wasted potential of what this book could have been was there! I just wished it didn't focus to much on the set up rather than much needed the story telling elements
