I listened to this audiobook. At times I was weeping. I thought I’d enjoy the story, having lived in Atlanta for six year. This memoir is very lyrical, raw, and emotional. I’m not sure how the author was able to read it without breaking down.
Natasha Trethewey writes a moving, heartbreaking memoir about losing her mother to domestic violence.
The author beautifully recounts her life and memories of her mother, who was killed by her ex-husband. Thirty years after the death of her mother she revisits incidents, memories, evidence in an attempt to come to terms with her grief and loss.

A truly heart wrenching read that details the author's life and her mother's murder at the hands of her stepfather. The memoir was written with a tenderness that is so beautiful as she reflects on her life before her mother's death and after. She deals with the complicated grief and the ways in which she feels responsible for her mother's death and how her mother's death changed her. A truly great memoir.

Where to begin. Such a powerful, compelling story masterfully written. This one will stay with me.
Heartbreakingly beautiful when as she's engaging with her emotions and unearthing deeper understanding about her mother's death. Really hard to read when she's writing from the actual transcripts of what happened to her mother and the communication between her mother & Big Joe.
