Heartbreaking but it felt like a genuine, believable story from start to finish. We meet Nadia and Saeed(pronounced Sade) are from a city of which we don’t know the name of (I presume somewhere Arab.) Saeed is drawn to Nadia and verbally expresses him wanting to get to know her, despite her not fully a traditional woman at the time in the sense that she rides a motorcycle of some kind and has expressed she doesn’t pray. Why she wears her black robes in particular? “ So men don’t fuck me with me.” One of my favorite lines ! We travel with Nadia and Saeed from this unnamed city to Greece, to London and finally California. I don’t want to spoil the ending but I thought it was a realistic and again genuine way of maturing as we get older about our wants and needs. Looking forward to more from this author !

Beautiful way to transcribe migration in a book! If you're looking into reading that topic, choose this one because it also has an incredible character development, and the description of the evolutions of the relationships were stunning! And the place of women in the society was questioned in a very interested way!

This was definitely a unique book. The language was evocative and painted such vividly detailed pictures in my head while reading. It was graphic and the realism in the book was highlighted throughout. Some parts were so graphic and gruesome that it actually came as a surprise to me given there are parts of the book that had no detail at all.
The sentence structure was what got me. Some sentences took up an entire page. Run-on sentences, so many commas. It was very difficult to read at some points because it was easy to lose the point of the sentence, which decreased the intensity of the plot. About halfway through the book it got really slow.. rather repetitive.. and then sped up a bit with some new content.
I also wish the ending was more detailed. It kind of just... ended. It felt as if it was rushed at the end, where there was so much more of the story that could have taken place.
