The Munich Air Disaster has passed into legend and there are few people still alive who were around to witness the aftermath at first hand.  This book brings the events and their impact on the survivors, the club and the country as a whole to life.  It’s a tough read at times, Peace does not shy away from the suffering of the men and women involved but it serves as a fitting memorial to those who died.

I am not a football/soccer fan and I began this book with no context for the Man U crash in 1958, but I was transfixed throughout. Such a moving story about men rising above themselves and bearing such a difficult load.

While not a Man Utd fan, I am a fan of football and was intrigued about a fictionalized telling of the Munich air crash. But my word this book was a slog. The story itself is interesting and I enjoyed some of the personal tales of those involved and regarding the rebuilding of the team. Obviously, the subject naturally makes this book a heavy, sad book. But everything about it is bleak. I don't normally take issue with stream of consciousness writing or missing speech marks, but with the constant, over repetition of feelings and full names and run of sentences, it was just too much. Granted, it's very well researched. Perhaps to the point were it's too well researched and there's just too many matches and players mentioned that they all become a blur. Describing every funeral just made me want to give up with the book, to be honest. It was also really hard to tell a lot of the characters apart, and there are a hell of a lot of characters. Nothing really set them apart besides Jimmy, Bobby, and Matt.
