I was laughing for most of this book. Of course reading it now is a little weird, since some of the specific instances are dated. It also made me sad/angry just re-processing the awful state we’re in today, and there were some parts I skipped due to triggering content

Oh I’ll always read anything Lindy West writes, even now that I know (SPOILER) that she’s not into dresses with pockets.

Her mind is a delight.

Highly recommend the audiobook version of this. Lindy narrates it herself (as with her last book, Shill) and does a great job - it's more like she's doing a radio segment than reading an audiobook.

A powerful and funny feminist cultural critique. In this book, West takes on the rampant misogyny in America and exposes it for what it is. She argues that the #MeToo movement was long overdue and that the lamentations of those who claim it has gone too far are unfounded. With wit and humor, West urges readers to confront the dark lies in the American mythos and to unpack the complicated politics of not being a white man in the twenty-first century.

The audiobook version is particularly enjoyable, as West's narration is engaging and energetic. She brings her words to life and makes the listener feel like they are part of the conversation. The book is filled with personal anecdotes, cultural references, and insightful commentary that will leave readers both laughing and nodding in agreement.

While the book is not perfect and at times feels repetitive, it is an important addition to the ongoing conversation about feminism and the state of our society. West's message is clear: "the truth can transform us, and we need to examine the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and each other in order to create a better future".

A must-read for anyone interested in feminism, social justice, and cultural criticism.

Incredibly easy 5 stars and, as always, staggeringly insightful commentary.

Very funny, very hard to hear at times. West does an excellent job narrating, and lands it on a hopeful call to action.

I love Lindy, and I especially love her TikTok compilations. Thus, I wanted to love this. I think I've just read enough feminist books at this point where her essays aren't paradigm-shifting anymore. I loved the essay about the gear-lover Facebook group, though. The rest probably won't stick with me. Still love you, Lindy!
