Since I read Carolyn Jessop's "Escape" about six months ago, I've been almost obsessed with the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints and the stories of people who have managed to get out of it. Elissa Wall, the author of this book, was forced to marry her 19-year-old first cousin when she was only 14. The story is redundant and too detailed at parts (I think it would be better if about a third had been edited out), but it provides an honest first-person account of the oppression, mind control, and abuse that occurs in the FLDS.

Amazing. This story was beautifully written and never felt boring or like it dragged on.
Elissa Wall is an amazing woman who had to experience a completely sheltered life that only came crashing down when she was forced to marry her dreadful and soon to be abusive first cousin at the age of 14.

Aside from constantly screaming in my head, "Get out of there! Ugh, you have to leave," this was a great book. I felt corrupt and disgusted just reading this, but I'm glad for the way things turned out.

Three things from this book
1. Warren Jeffs, super creepy
2. If marring your cousin wasn't already bad, take heed from this book
3. Women never cease to amaze me with the horrors they endure and stand up to!
