Why have I not read this book yet? I remember wanting to read it when it came out but I didn't do much reading at the time. Now I am annoyed at myself for not reading it sooner. This book is important. It made me cry. I loved the characters. Beautiful, heartbreaking, and real. A good reminder to keep fighting for change, continue screaming against injustice, and not settle for the bare minimum. Say their names because they deserved better.

I read this one 1/2 in paperback and 1/2 on audio - and really enjoyed both formats!

I loved Angie Thomas’s writing and even though this work was fiction, it very much depicted the reality of the States today. We must do better, and books like this written by Black voices will help people outside the Black community see and commit to that.
