Did the writers really need to go there? Yes, I guess they did. There are many high ratings for this volume. So either readers overlooked the beyond horrible thing that happened to one of the female characters or they explain it away as something that would really happen when crazy people take control of a community. Just because there are people like that in the real world and this one where Walkers exist, doesn't mean we want to read about it. Seeing it with the illustrations made it that much worse. If the writers want to show all sides to people, so be it. I just don't want to read about sadistic people going off on other people.

REDEMPTION!! I literally almost dropped the series after the previous book. Carol only did one fucking weird thing in this one. I can look past it. The Governor has entered the chat and he is truly an unhinged character. This was the everything I have been hoping for in this series so far and I’m excited to see what’s next.

Ok, well this got crazy dark, like Game of Thrones level of graphical violence dark. Is it still a good story and I'm invested enough to want to keep reading the series to find out character's fates? Yeah, but if the rest of the series is incredibly graphically violent for the sake of being violent and not to actually advance the plot, I may end up dropping it at some point. We will see.

Wow wow wow. If there was ever a point in a series that I never wanted to put the book down this was it. Without giving anything away, there is just no point you want to put this book down. The others so far have left me wanting more, but this was nearly took my breath away.

The trigger warning issue. Intentional maiming, torture, and rape. Definitely more real difficulties face the gang and so they have less time to spend on manufactured ones.

Rick, Michonne, and Glenn find Woodbury and meet The Governor, who is a lot less polish and a lot more thug in the comic than he is on the show. Still psycho though.

Finally! A surprise shock original to the comic that I wasn't expecting.

I have been liking this series. Not the best I've read, but it is interesting to see how the characters react to the stress of their situation. Although they do seem to recover from going over the edge pretty quickly. Like the main character Rick ranting hysterically to the group that they are the walking dead at the end of one volume only to be leading the away team in the next volume. Would have thought this situation would have scarred people a little more deeply (perhaps Michonne; see Vol. 6). And what's with the kids? Is it just me, or is their dialogue too.... I don't know, mature? So obviously a ploy to raise ethical/moral/thoughtful questions? It just doesn't feel right.
