This book could have used more world building but I rate books by how much I enjoy them and I enjoyed this book immensely. What’s funny is I absolutely HATED the writing style in A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows, especially because it was almost back to back sex scenes. But this book wasn’t like that and I take back all the harsh things I’ve said about this author. She’s redeemed herself. I just hope the series continues to keep me as enthralled as the first book did!

It was a quick Romantasy read, not a lot of world building or explaining of the magic system. The dirty talk of the MMC is delicious so a quick smut read with an interesting overall story. But not enough character history or development.

I gave this a 3 ⭐️ review at first because I wanted Dacre to burn at the end of Book 1. Then I read Book 2, and he definitely redeems himself. So if you’re like me and weren’t aware that he would be awful at first, he gets better. In fact, I feel like Book 1/2 should be combined so people don’t DNF and not give him the chance to rectify.
Most of my issues with book 1 work itself out in book 2. More love, more fantasy. Can’t wait to Dacre and Vereen put their dads in their place and whip this kingdom in shape!
