The world building is subpar, the FMC and MMC could use work as they're kinda falling flat for me, but I love the MMCs little sister.

Ngl, nothing much happened after the FMC was captured. But I acknowledge this is a series so I'm hoping the next book has more to it. The MMC also did something horrid to the FMC in the last chapter and I can't imagine how he redeems himself after that. It gave me a furious ick.

Despite nothing much happening and my other issues with this book I still inhaled it in two sittings so it wasn't all bad.

Did I sort of enjoy this book? Yeah. It was short and I kept hearing SO MUCH about it. I had accidentally bought book two on Audible and I was hoping that I’d enjoy it enough to breeze through both.

And to clarify something right away: I don’t mind insta-lust at all. But this seems to go from 0 to 100 quick and without anything else really happening. It was all characters having fun or arguing/fighting with practically NO plot, besides the occasional reminder there is stuff happening in the background. And when stuff does start to happen, it goes super fast and then it just ends. I enjoyed
their trip to the surface for a day to run errands and train
because it felt like they were progressing the plot AND their characters. Idk. The spice was satisfying but, as a reader, I didn’t feel like I earned it. It also didn’t feel like they did either lol. They hated each other almost the whole time besides questionable and obsessive behavior.
Wren was a cute character and I wish Kai had some more development. The world building was interesting but we were constantly TOLD whatever they wanted us to know. Not shown.
Also, side note,
is it not icky that they had sexual relations using her MOTHER’s name?
Yucky. Probably gonna DNF book two.

don’t even ask me what i would do to read book two right now because it’d be entirely unholy.

you’d think this book was a Thanksgiving feast because I. ATE. IT. UP!!!!!

this is my first Holly Renee book & my god it will not be my last. Nyra is the lost princess who ends up in the hands of the rebellion. Dacre (the new love of my life) is the son of the rebellion leader and a man with one dirty mouth

It just didn’t hook me as much as I thought it would - I wasn’t buying into the instant hate, and I didn’t feel invested enough emotionally in the MMC.
That said, I am continuing with the series.
