I found myself cackling at the author’s commentary more than I found myself enjoying the plot. There is something missing to bring this world fully to life for me. There’s magic and then battle is sword fights, but what seems like more modern photographs. The lack of attention to detail messed with me.
I am not sure if I will read the next book in the series. I’m not strongly compelled to.

Good Plot, okay story telling
The premise of this book is classic Romeo and Juliet but the story is told more as a bully romance. I do not enjoy bully romance stories. Dacre is too mean and too angry. He never really shows a soft side that makes up for his trauma and Nyra falls for him anyway? I don’t like it. There are hints that he has redeeming qualities but there aren’t enough for me to enjoy the “spark” between the two main characters. I wish she had opened up to Wren a little more too.
