Fairytale retellings are quickly becoming one of my new favorite things to read! I loved that this Little Mermaid retelling had so many nods to the original Little Mermaid (loving shiny things, daughter of a king, an evil sea queen, a crab friend, etc.) but also so many of it's own elements and twists (a fae world, a lethal kiss, a selkie, etc.)
I also loved how complex and layered our main character Maisie is. She loves shiny things and stealing plus she's got a lethal kiss BUT she also has an incredibly kind heart and is a really strong character.
This book did drag for me a bit in the first third but then the second half moved super fast! If you love fairytale retellings, romance, fantasy, and the book The Selection (this book also has a marriage competition like The Selection) then I think you will love this book!

Awesome book! Kept me in suspense and excited the entire time. Can’t wait to read her other retellings!

Being a little mermaid retelling, i had high hopes for this story. I was definitely left wanting. Compared to the first two books in this series this was not good. Reading it felt like work as I did not connect with either the story or the characters.
Maisie is childish and selfish, and has no thought for consequences. Especially during the first half of the book, I just did not like her.
I also didn’t overly enjoy the plot. I already don’t like the church involved in this book, and I didn’t feel sufficiently convinced to change my mind about them. Yeah… Just wasn’t for me this one.
Crossing fingers for the next one!

Verrrrry slow start but the second half made up for it. LOLed at the Bachelor references. Maisie and Dorian gave me butterflies.
