I really did enjoy this book so much, and to be honest, I ate it right up! Couldn't put it down, wanted so much more of the world, of Maisie and Dorian. It had such a happy ending like a fairytale retelling should, in my opinion. I think the author did such a wonderful job infusing the elements of The Little Mermaid into every part of this book, and made it so enjoyable. It had the right amount of adventure sprinkled in, and I really loved the bachelor-esque competition that our main character Maisie finds herself in.
I will try not to include any spoilers, but all of the main characters were great, especially Podaxis. He was my favorite, and I wish we had more book time with him. He was so funny, so cute, and truly embodied a best friend and protector to Maisie. The one part of the book that had me crying was the part when she is essentially saying goodbye to Podaxis at the end. That broke my heart! I just felt so much for Dax in that moment, and his sweet little crab self.
Maisie was likeable, somewhat annoying in parts but I think that's just the way of it with a female main character in her position. The author wanted to stay true to Maisie being a good soul, and I really think she captured that well. Maisie was innocent, too innocent sometimes, and also a little naïve but it balanced perfectly with Dorian who was a little more rough around the edges. And to think that Father Viktor thought MAISIE was rough around the edges!
All in all, great read. I know you can read these books out of order. Some of them introduce characters in the other novels, which I love. I'll definitely be picking up the rest of these in this series. They are fun, engaging, and just happy little reads when you're not feeling so great.

Loved it again! Love all these entangled by fae books. A very easy read.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quick Thoughts: This was my first book by the author and I expected check-your-brain-at-the-door fun. But the book so was needlessly long and the romance so stale, it was hard to enjoy the more fun scenes.
Main Character: Maisie. She's a good character. Fun, optimistic, trying to do the right thing, but without a perfect moral compass. I liked her.
Love Interest: Dorian. I think the author did this character a disservice by having him spend much of the book hiding his true feeling and pretending to be someone he's not for plot reasons. He spends about 50% of the book being cold, aloof, and rude. Rarely do we get to see the "real him" underneath. This choice means I was also left cold on this character and didn't find much to like or why Maisie would like him.
Romance: This has the same problem as Dorian's character overall. First, the characters only know each other for a week by the end of the book and sometimes only spend a few hours together a day. Dorian is not acting like himself for much of that time, instead he is very standoffish to Maisie. So it's hard to understand why she falls for him, especially when she already had a negative perception of him going into the competition. I found the whole thing very unbelievable. What do they have in common? Any interest other than desserts and when Maisie spontaneously decides she likes boxing?
Relationship Status at Book End:
Tropes:
• Fairy-tale retelling (loosely)

It was good, nothing extraordinary though the second book was better
