I find it very difficult to leave reviews with 5 stars...but this book truly felt like it earned that rating.

The Little Mermaid is one of my favourite Disney films, and I have a special connection with Ariel as a performer. So when a friend of mine gave me this book for Christmas, I was initially a little worried about reading it. Books can sometimes let you down. This one absolutely did not.

From beginning to end we were introduced to a world were Fae had integrated themselves with humans, existing together. But when we meet our protagonist, Maisie, she gives us pause because she's both a princess and a thief. Her ongoing battle with who she is and what she wants are a central focus of the story as she fights to retain her independence and keep herself safe from the one person who would use her magic for evil. And when we finally meet Dorian, we know that there is bound to be some incredible tension between them.

I adored the soft calls back to both the Disney film and the original story by Hans Christian Anderson. Her relationships with her friends also gave you some feel good moments, encouraging this tough character to embrace her moments of vulnerability.

I have every intention of reading the other two books that this author has written, and I hope that I will love them as much as I loved this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a heartwarming story. This whole series is soooo good so far!

The world building in the one was so good. I loved that when I thought the story would go a certain way it then didn't.

Maisie and Dorian are made for each other. This book had a bit more darkness in it than the other but it was still an amazing read.

I definitely recommend this series so far.
