Tessonja Odette has quickly become one of my favorite fantasy authors, and I swear each book she writes just gets better and better. Kiss of the Selkie is like the little mermaid meets The Bachelor (I refuse to compare it to The Selection because that series was NOT enjoyable for me).

It follows a Selkie named Maisie who has a kiss that can kill. As a reader, I first met Maisie briefly in the Cinderella retelling Curse of the Raven Prince (each book in Entangled with Fae is a standalone fairytale retelling, but many of the characters play small roles in the other books!) She’s been on the run for the better part of a year from her Sea Queen mother. But when she saves a handsome stranger from drowning (one who happens to be the fugitive son of a fae killer), she risks discovery and enters into a bargain to fix her mistake by assassinating him. To do so, she enters into a bridal pageant to get close enough to kill him with her kiss.

I was extremely intrigued to see how the romance would be written in this book, considering the main character has a deadly kiss, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Odette wove the perfect romance where a touch on the arm, and holding hands felt sooo intimate. The slow burn romance in this one was A+++. This book is NA and does contain at least one intimate scene, though not completely explicit it’s also not fade to black.

The cast of characters in Kiss of the Selkie were some of my favorites — Odette has created a magical, beautiful and unique world in her novels set in Farwyvae, and a cast of characters that I wouldn’t hesitate to meet if given the opportunity. The city of Lumenas, located in the Star Court seems so fun and lively and is definitely somewhere I’d like to vacation!

Overall, I think this has been my favorite book in this series so far, and I can’t wait for the next installments.

I liked this, although I didn’t love it. It felt kind of rushed, but I enjoyed the storyline. It reminded me of the selection with a more fantasy type focus.
3,5

I did not like the start of this book the first 100 pages or so, however it picked up about half way through. Part of of what sold me on this book ways the blurb that said it was similar to the selection and brigerton, it is not. Once I left those notions behind it was much more enjoyable. Also when it mentions a little mermaid retelling it is refering to the animated movie not the classic fairytale.

This retelling of the little mermaid is the perfect mix between a fairytale and the selection; telling the story of a selkie who survive as thief, becoming a fugitive who seeks for refuge at land.
A light hearted story who will keep you hooked.

4⭐️ I had a great time reading this! The whole Bachelor-ish vibes in this book very interesting and fun to read about. I enjoyed this one, and would recommend, but towards to end I felt like it dragged on a bit.
