I’m going between a 3.5 and 4 for this one. I was not a huge fan of the very abrupt ending. I mean I get it and I understand why she did it. However, still did not love that because I felt like it left more questions and answers, especially because it spoke to the character flaws of one of the MC‘s.

I really enjoy the sociopath vibe it was giving off of one of the characters. It was a nice little spin. It was fun because truly, you had no idea who was lying at all, and that small town was bursting with secrets and lies.

Another great story from SL. All I will say is what a brat. Loved the ending and how it all unfolded.

Pick this up to “turn off my brain,” ended up frustrating me to now end lol.

There are wayyy too many perspectives. It jumps back and forth between them before the reader can feel anything for the characters. The characters are rushed, the same handful of adjectives every few pages - dizzy, ashamed, sick, etc. It was next to impossible to care about the characters because you read a handful of paragraphs about them at a time. I guess it could be plot-driven, but it’s altogether aimless. Even though a little girl is missing, it felt incredibly low-stakes.

*Spoiler*
The fact that the real “mastermind” is the neurodivergent girl with behavioral problems made me almost put down the book. It’s such an ableist approach to a mystery that I won’t be reading anything from this author again.
