Outstanding tidbits of McCullough speeches and far more awesome because the author read this audiobook. Wonderful insights and a unique perspective on our nation and its deep and varied history.
Four favorite things in this collection of addresses:
1) David McCullough sharing stories and observations that relate to here and now.
2) David McCullough narrating - what an enjoyable listening experience.
3) American history anecdotes that inspire optimism in my heart and mind.
4) A call to action - I have work to do in improving my community. Others made what I enjoy possible, I must improve things for the future also.

A much needed reminder in these days. For a complete, somewhat mind bending experience, read this after watching an episode of Handmaid’s Tale.
A delightful little volume that, in words of inspiration, pays homage to our founding fathers and calls us to turn to their example as we seek to carve out the future of our country.
I think NOW is a good time to read this book. It reminded me of of the patriotism and pride I have in our nation and its history. The speeches are short enough to grab a reader who typically doesn't like going into all the detail. But the flip-side is that it leaves others, like myself, wanting more. After finishing it, I feel encouraged to read more, learn more, and do more. It was excellent!

This is the first book I've ever read by David McCullough, but it won't be the last. His knowledge and articulation of history is unparalleled. I think everyone would benefit from studying our history more fully, and this book is a great place to start. His emphasis on the importance of continously learning was particularly motivating to me. Definitely a must read, especially if you have a love of American history!
“I don’t know when you last picked up an American history textbook … But most, it would seem, have been created in order to kill any interest one might have in history.”
Thankfully, we have historian author David McCullough.
With this small but mighty tome, McCullough so eloquently brings to life the true nature of the American people – “Who we are and What we Stand for.”
A wonderfully curated collection of speeches as presented by David McCullough, encompassing nearly 3 decades, the select speeches reflect on the ever changing political landscape of this nation but emphasizes the vital elements that have shaped the American people.
“But power is not the point, responsibility is the point and at the heart of responsibility always are moral choices.”

Loved it! I have the hardback and I listened to David McCullough read it on audio. Both are great. I love hearing David McCullough read his own work and the book is aesthetically pleasing in every way. A lot of great words in this slim volume.
