I love this series! James’ point of view gave so much more detail. I have truly fallen in love with these characters!

The Hunted series is what made me fall in love with Ivy Smoak, and her work. I had read a book previously by her several years ago, and I enjoyed it, but it led me to forgetting about her. Ever since I read the Hunted Series, I haven’t been able to put her work down, so imagine my delight when I found out she was writing Temptation from James Point of view. I have always been a huge fan of reading a book from different perspectives. I am one who believes there is always two sides to every story, and I feel in order to be able to truly understand a book you need both sides.

I thought I loved James Hunter before but seeing things from his point of view made me fall in love with him even more. With Obsessed you get to delve deeper into James struggles, and overall, it helps you understand James even more. I especially loved his inner turmoil as he juggled dating a student. This book does end with a mild cliffhanger (can we call it a cliff hanger when we know how the story ends?) and as usual I am wanting the next book now. This book had me feeling all the emotions, including the hatred I always have felt for Isabella. I loved the reference that Obsessed made to the event that happened in Empire High Betrayal and made me wonder even more how James handled it in his later years. This book was everything I didn’t know I needed, and reminded me why James should be my favorite.

With every book Ivy writes, her writing gets better and better. She just has this way of drawing you into the world that she builds, and makes you feel like these characters are real life people. I will forever support her, and her work and cannot wait for future releases.

To start, I received this in a Goodreads giveaway I entered because it sounded moderately interesting. I guess I should have also questioned the fact that the amazon site literally only has five star reviews that are likely ARC reviews. The entire first half had me cringing over the Hallmark level cheesy lines and awkward encounters. The second half had me skimming over details that didn't need to be in the book at all.

The title is accurate, the Hero was obsessed with the heroine and probably should have been talking to his shrink about that rather than some of the other mundane things he was wasting his time talking about. However, that being said, the scenes that involved the Doctor, his body guard, and his maid were much more interesting to me than anything involving our heroine and the drivel that came through his head during those scenes.

I haven't read the original version of this book from the heroine's point of view, but I can't imagine that it was any better than this. It seemed drawn out for the sake of pages. I don't feel like it added anything to the book. All it did was make me more unclear about why the Hero and his siblings don't talk, and the ever present in these books "other woman" trope. Plus the miscommunication was painfully obnoxious.

Perhaps I'm just on a streak of books that didn't live up to my expectations, but hoo boy.

3.5⭐️ This started so good and then quickly became way too dragged out and on the verge of immature. James’ entire backstory is his trust issues and he spies on Penny? Wtf?! The spice was great but the whole plot was based on these 2 characters lying to each other and was a struggle to read after 80%

"She was the light to my darkness. And when you lived a life in the dark, it was really fucking easy to fall in love with the light"

I have been so excited to get inside of James' head since I read Temptation last year. WE have learned from not only the James/Penny books but also from the Empire High books how hard of a life James has had. He is so self deprecating and hard on himself. He truly does not believe that he deserves happiness. A lot of my reasons for being frustrated when I first read Temptation was cleared up by reading Obsessed. On the surface - their age issue never seemed like a big deal to me. I could never understand why he got so mad. This really helped me to understand the underlying layer of trust and the fact he did not feel worthy. Poor James. By the end of this book, I just wanted to wrap him in my arms and give him a big hug. I loved the therapist scenes!! I loved the ending, especially after reading the Empire High books on knowing those characters. I like that it was still a cliffhanger leaving us wanting more. I like that even those of us who have inhaled ALL books in this universe - we still don't know everything and can still be surprised and intrigued! This book is a win!!

Oh and the spice level was TOP TIER! James is such a dirty boy. This is the level of spice I expect from an Icy Smoak book.

DNF

This was a DNF for me. It was flat and boring. I just couldn’t keep reading it after several attempts. Sorry.

Obsessed

Love James pov my favorite I can’t wait for more! James dialog with Ian and Ellen are just amazing! Need more of James!

CREEPY?!

I was really excited to read this because all the comments seemed so promising, however I couldn’t even make it halfway through. Granted the chemistry was there, most of the book was Professor Hunter talking about how much he needs Penny. The characters seemed immature and it was very insta-love. Hunter also came off creepy. I found myself constantly cringing as I stumbled through pages. Maybe for some but definitely not my cup of tea.

This is book 1 of The Hunted Series, but from James’ POV. An entertaining and quick read, no surprises here! Spicier than Temptation and deff had to put my Kindle font size alllllll the way down when reading in public places.

The ending tho

I loved the perspective of Professor Hunter. It was so amazing to hear his instant connection with Penny, but that cliffhanger at the end... UGH!!!
