An interesting fantasy romance which had some laugh out loud sentences. Both the main characters have self-esteem issues and don't think that anyone could be with them because (insert flaws here).  The first half is light, sweet and witty. The last half was more adventurous, mystery-thriller with a happy ending.

This was becoming too obscene, too much about sex and way too unsafe for a sex-repulsed ace. Yuck!

(But the writing is fun and good. Just... Why are allosexual characters always HYPERsexual? Can't they spend a few days interacting with people without thinking about it?)

This struck the right balance of intrigue, growth, and romance for me. It starts off well: first few sentences are about a god dying, and then his former paladin being adrift and broken. (I did think the romance was going to be gay paladins, but apparently that’s Book 3 in the series.) It had a lawyer, a perfumer, a spy, a prince, an assassin, a doctor, a weasel… and multiple severed heads (but they weren’t that bad? Don’t let a severed head deter you!)

The plot was fun and entertaining, and I am amazed at T. Kingfisher’s breadth.

There is some blood/gore, sexy times scenes, gaslighting, and emotional abuse. (I found them all to be pretty mild-medium, but am listing them as medium just in case.)

The murder mystery and court intrigue were fine. The romance was annoying and cringy and would give D’Ancey LaGuarde a run for her money.

That was a very delightful read. I read through the last 25% as quickly as I could, but as luck would have it, people just kept *talking* to me, and I had to be a *normal* person.

Seriously, though. I loved the two main characters and several of the secondary characters. I can't wait to read the second and third books.

But I do have a question that may never be answered. How did Stephen's god die? Maybe that question will eventually be answered.

This was a wonderful book. I throughly enjoyed myself. I love that this book featured to middle-aged main characters. Their chemistry was good, the plot was enjoyable, the worldbuilding is awesome, and I found the writing to be full of laughs.

T Kingfisher has truly solidified herself as one of my favorite authors. I have been in a book slump since August, managing to start very little, never mind actually finishing. But listening to the Paladin's Grace audio on my new long commutes has been a breath of fresh air. I was excited to get into the car and go to work so I could listen to more. And I was just as excited to leave for the day and get more of this story.

I loved everything about this book from start to finish. The characters were funny and broken and compelling. The story itself was fascinating, full of twists and surprises I wouldn't have expected. Stephen and Grace were such a perfectly awkward matched and reading their romance was such a joy.

I truly cannot wait to pick up the next book in this series. And shout out to the audiobook narrator, he was really amazing!!
