Although awful things happen near constantly in this book, I found it emotionally compelling and couldn’t stop reading it. The book manages to pack a lot of tension in and somehow made me care about Hal even though he’s sort of fundamentally unsympathetic in a lot of ways. This book made me feel things while reading it and I’ve thought about it many times since finishing it, so I’ll call it a success.
