What an enjoyable read for a fantasy trope that doesn’t interest me. The authors style was so captivating it made it difficult for me to put the book down. Oraya is such a refreshing and fun character

It was a good book but I found it hard to get into it. The slow burn was really quite slow and the emphasis was on the trials rather than romance.
I liked the relationship of Oreya and Vincent, but didn’t enjoy the flashbacks.
The MMC was intriguing but didn’t think he was very fleshed out. The ending was good and made me want to read the second book.

The first 30% percent was kinda boring, but oh boy, did it get so much better. Couldn't put it down after that
I’m kicking myself for waiting so long before starting this book. The obsession I have with the characters and this world is probably unhealthy.
This book follows a human girl named Oraya who was adopted by the vampire king. She enters a deadly competition to gain power that would help her rule along side her father, but unexpected turn of events start to threaten her main goal.
Oraya is a savage, fearless and strong willed. The world building was phenomenal and yet easy to follow along. All of the characters were well developed and the emotional tension between the two lovers was electric. This book was exquisite. I didn’t want it to end, and I’m happy that there is more to Oraya’s story.
If this book is on your TBR, then move it up the list. This book has easily become one of my favorites.

This book was amazing, but when I compare it to its sister trilogy The War of Lost Hearts, I am underwhelmed by the main characters. Driven by greed more than duty and lust more than love, Oraya and Raihn have a lot to learn from Tisaanah and Maxatarius. I know Oraya eventually will, but I don't think I will ever forgive Raihn for what he did.
This book was amazing I loved the action, politics, magic system, and the romance so much. Everyone who loves fantasy needs to read this book right now. I am going to say that since Sadie is the only one reading this that she might not like it and I wouldn’t put it in your want to read. I give this book 5 stars.
