I think this is mg least favorite book by this author. It wasn’t bad but I predicted a couple of the twists so it wasn’t as interesting to me as the prior books.

Inventive, fast-paced with MPOV. My favorite book from Finlay so far. I don't think there was a character I didn't like.
From the cops, the school, the FBI and the Mob. Characters find themselves coming and going all over the world.
Every decision that each character makes is coming from a reactive response. It could be from something that happened to them or someone they loved. You will find yourself rooting for characters that you normally wouldn't root for.
Swearing. No sexual content. A detailed description of a moment of bullying. I always enjoy multiple narrators.

Ugh. This was an ARC. I was so stoked for. This author either keeps me on the edge of my seat, or loses me completely. This was one of the latter. Much of the story required me to suspend my disbelief (something I enjoy 0) to make the story work. It was far-fetched and kind of ridiculous how we were supposed to 'play along' to make the story make sense. The bigger issue with this one though is that I was outside the story - the whole time. I never felt connected to anyone nor did I root for anyone throughout. Overall the plot holes were huge, and the ending and the elongated epilogue didn't make the read any better.

Five years ago, Ryan Richardson's girlfriend, Ali, was kidnapped from their date & has never been found. Ryan has had suspicion hanging over him for all this time, & has never quite been able to put the past behind him. On a summer trip to Italy, Ryan gets a call from his father to say that Ali's car has been found submerged in a lake in their hometown of Leavenworth. There's no sign of Ali, but the car contains two dead men & a cryptic note on an envelope saying "If something happens to me".
Meanwhile back in Leavenworth, new deputy sheriff, Poppy McGee, has the discovery of missing teenager Ali's car happen on her first day in the job. Asked to follow up on any leads or tips, Poppy finds that most of them are as unhelpful as expected, but the investigation takes a strange turn which has Poppy suspecting her own family of being mixed up in Ali's disappearance.
This is a multi-strand plot where the reader hears from both Ryan & Poppy's point of view, alongside a third narrative which deals with the aftermath of a school bullying incident. I was a little perplexed at first how the three were going to dovetail, but the author pulled it all together nicely. It's all a bit improbable, yet extremely readable & it kept my attention well. 3.5 stars (rounded up)
My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Head of Zeus/Aries, for the opportunity to read an ARC. I am voluntarily giving an honest review.
