I loved this book! I gasped so many times I think I was starting to bug my husband—oops! There were just twists on twists on twists and I couldn’t help it, haha!

The story is told from 4-5 different POVs and that could easily become confusing but I didn’t find that to be the case at all. It was really easy to follow along and when everything started to slot in to place, it was soooo satisfying.

My only little issue was that there were a couple points while I was reading that I was like ‘ooooh, this was definitely written by a man.’ The most apparent point was while discussing the ‘frivolity’ of women being obsessed with social media and applying makeup to look like the Kardashians. It was unnecessary and made me roll my eyes but it was just a small blip so it didn’t affect my overall feelings about the book.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!

If Something Happens to Me is a fun thriller with an interesting storyline and a few twists thrown in here and there. There are multiple POVs, which I always LOVE in thrillers.

I would HIGHLY recommend going in blind because there are so many aspects to this one that would be best to let them unravel organically as you’re reading. I didn’t see so many of the sub-plots coming and I really enjoyed that part of the reading experience!

I definitely want to pick up some of Alex Finlay’s back list to try out!

I did feel like this one was a bit cheesy and it read as if it was a Matt Damon or Ben Affleck movie

Thank you to St. Martins Press and Minotaur Books for my copy of this!

Alex Finlay’s newest novel is undeniably a page-turner! I read this in nearly one sitting. The short chapters and alternating POVs kept me engaged.

I especially enjoyed Poppy as a character! She was tough, strategic, and smart.

The three POVs seem to be separate pieces, but all come together to form one puzzle in the end. If you’ve read a lot of thrillers, you can probably guess early on how certain aspects play into one another, but it is still very entertaining! I liked seeing how everything played out.

I’m also originally from Kansas, so it’s always fun when a story is set (even just partially) in a place you’re familiar with/have been to, like Leavenworth is for me!

Not even my mini reading slump that I’m currently in could make me put this book down! Still, I’m going with 4 stars because while I really liked this, I wouldn’t call it a new favorite. The Night Shift by Alex Finlay remains my favorite of his, but If Something Happens to Me is my next favorite!

After a few really bad reads I was desperate for something exciting and man this book delivered!
From the first page to the last I was invested fully. I went in having some ideas about where the story would go after reading the blurb but nope, the twists and turns kept me guessing throughout.
I loved the characters, and watching their evolution. There’s a particular plot point that made me heave a sigh of relief when it unfolded but I won’t disclose it here as that would be a spoiler.
My recommendation is to go into this book as blindly as you possibly can and just buckle your seatbelt. It’s going to be an epic ride!

This was a really fun book! Fast paced thriller that keeps you hooked quickly and captivated throughout.

I thought the format was pretty cool, but bc of all the characters, one thing I noted is that it was difficult to really go into any one character in great detail. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. I thought it was interesting to see the story from so many characters across time. I’d recommend this!

The twists and turns in Part 1 & 2 kept me engaged. I felt like Part 3 was rushed and the author was trying to wrap up the ending quickly.

If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay is a thrilling rollercoaster that weaves a complex narrative. It follows the story of Ali, who mysteriously vanishes after her boyfriend Ryan was pulled from her car, only to have that car discovered in a local lake five years later. The narrative unfolds through three distinct plotlines, each contributing to the gripping climax of the story.

The mob plotline, a glimpse into a world driven by revenge, struck a deep emotional chord with me. It delves into the heart-wrenching aftermath of a middle school bullying incident, a tragedy that resonated deeply with me as a parent. It’s a poignant part of the story that I knew would lead to anything but a devastating outcome.

I also loved the pacing. I flew through this story just having to know how the plotlines were connected and what was going to happen next. I figured out some twists, while others caused my jaw to drop in surprise. I felt like the ending was an interesting, though not surprising, choice. And overall I enjoyed this newest Alex Finlay novel. They never disappoint!
