โ๏ธI received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarilyโ๏ธ
I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. I was worried the multiple POVs would get confusing, but it really didnโt. If I didnโt have kids I would have read this on one sitting. I appreciated that the climax happened, and we still got a handful of chapters after, that it didnโt feel rushed, or lacking. highly recommend!

For the past five years, Ryan Richardson has relived that terrible night. The car door ripping open. The crushing blow to the head. The hands yanking him from the vehicle. His girlfriend Aliโs piercing scream as she is taken.
With no trace of Ali or the car, a cloud of suspicion hangs over Ryan. But with no proof and a good lawyer, heโs never charged, though that doesnโt matter to the podcasters and internet trolls. Now, Ryan has changed his last name, and entered law school. He's put his past behind him.
Until, on a summer trip abroad to Italy with his law-school classmates, Ryan gets a call from his father: Ali's car has finally been found, submerged in a lake in his hometown. Inside are two dead men and a cryptic note with five words written on the envelope in Aliโs handwriting: If something happens to meโฆ
Then, halfway around the world, the unthinkable happens: Ryan sees the man who has haunted his dreams since that night.
As Ryan races from the rolling hills of Tuscany, to a rural village in the UK, to the glittering streets of Paris in search of the truth, he has no idea that his salvation may lie with a young sheriffโs deputy in Kansas working her first case, and a mobster in Philadelphia whoโs experienced tragedy of his own.

I absolutely loved this book. I was sucked in from the moment I started reading until the very end. This book is full of twists and turns that I never saw coming. The writing and character development are amazing and itโs so fast paced, there isnโt a moment that drags. Will definitely be recommending!

Finlay has done it again with another whip-smart, mind-blowing, roller coaster ride of a thriller. A mystery filled with deception, lies, and a little bit of murder, this book is perfect for every mystery lover when it comes out in May of 2024.
A fast paced, multiple POV, brain teaser of a mystery pulled off with finesse and flawless writing will have any reader pacing their house, book in hand, as they fly through the pages to solve the mystery of the disappearance of Alison Lane, an 18 year old that vanished without a trace after being abducted in her fatherโs car while at Loverโs Lane with her boyfriend Ryan Richardson.
Any author who can make their readers feel a wide range of emotions including fear, anger, and heartbreak is truly someone to behold. This was truly effortlessly executed. I would read this manโs grocery list if he let me.

If Something Happens to Me was my first book by Alex Finlay and I thouroughly enjoyed it! I liked the writing quite a lot, it managed to capture the atmosphere of the story perfectly.
This book follows Ryan Richardson who was thought to have killed his girlfriend, Alison. Then we follow a random (or is he) accountant for a mobster. Finally, we have the POV of Poppy, the new person on the force of the police squad in the little town she grew up in. These characters have a distinct voice and tell their story which seems to intertwine. I really enjoyed how this aspect was told and did have a moment where I gasped!
Overall, this story is fun and tense and exciting and leaves you wishing you finally get to the point and unravel everything. I felt like the ending might have been a little too rushed but overall this was a wonderful thriller/mystery.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The intervening stories kept me interested on how these three stories linked, besides the major two. The characters were interesting and the plot kept me reading. I felt so bad for Ryan, and I wanted to give him a hug.I did feel for other characters along the way, I felt like there was something on the edge of my brain until, it clicked. The whole thing being just one big tragedy with one underlying problem.

Heโs done it again, friends: Alex Finlay is the QUINTESSENTIAL thriller writer!
This book hooked me from the first page and didnโt let go. I read it, cover-to-cover, in 24 hours, and the only thing that stopped me from finishing it in one sitting was not wanting it to end.
This propulsive, fast-paced mystery has it all: mobsters, hi jinx aboard, love, bullying, shady characters, a young deputy sheriff, and an inability to trust anyone on the page. Itโs part mystery, part thriller, and all crime drama.
I got to the end of part one and audibly GASPED. There were a few other moments that I said โoh no!โ out loud. If it was a movie, there were a few scenes where I might have been watching from behind my hands over my eyes. It was scary and twisty and excellent.
Finlayโs writing is spectacular and it makes his novels utterly readable. Everything he has written, I have loved. Heโs officially an auto-buy author for me!

That night has followed Ryan for the past five years, and he doesnโt think it will ever stop. He was attacked and his girlfriend disappeared, but the rumor mill was convinced he did something to her. When he takes a trip to Italy with his fellow law school students, he gets a letter that can change it allโฆmaybe he will finally find out what happened to Ali.
OK so the first few chapters I was very confused how these stories all came together, but in the end they do! I was immediately pulled into the story on page one with the prologue of that night, and while the three storylines were so different at first, each one kept me fully engaged! This one certainly took me by surprise at several different points, and I fully enjoyed every second of this read!

You wonโt see it coming, is all I have to say about the latest Alex Finlay novel. The short chapters lend it to a very fast read. As you continue the story, you canโt help but wonder how everyone and everything is going to connect.
The author did a fab job, telling us a tale that suddenly comes together in an unexpected way. I seriously had to put my Kindle down for a second to shake my head at how surprising it was. Bravo, I love being surprised.
I would recommend this to other mystery aficionados out there, who want to be surprised by what is happening in the story.
