This was a good true crime read. I was somewhat familiar with the story of the smog, but had never heard of the killer before. The author skillfully weaves the stories together. The book keeps a good pace and doesn’t get bogged down with small details. If you enjoy history and true crime, you will enjoy this book.

In 1952, the great London smog, fueled by coal-spewing smokestacks, literally choked the city. Some 12,000 people died from the noxious pollutants released in just a few days. At the same time, a serial killer stalked London women. What do those threats have in common? Not as much as this part-history, part-true crimer would have you believe. Devil in the Soot City? It’s a stretch. Best as a postmortem of an environmental catastrophe that’s largely faded from the history books. Of the two killers, only the smog takes your breath away.
