What would you do if you believed a TV show was the reason your dad ended his life? How far would you go to seek revenge?

The Prank is a fast paced, gripping and exciting thriller which has you turning the pages rapidly to find out how it will pan out for El. This book is full of drama and suspense and is written really well. El’s character pulls on the heart strings as she struggles with her grief but at the same time you desperately want her to follow through with her plans to the very end!

This is the debut book by L.V.Matthews and I’m eagerly awaiting to read more of her work. She has set the bar high with The Prank and I highly recommend it to all!

This story follows a TV production company who produce a practical joke show. When one of these pranks goes wrong, and leads to the death of her father, Eleanor looks for revenge.
This was an easy and entertaining read, which I raced through in a few days. This is very much the definition of a ‘plot driven’ book, in which it was the story that kept me hooked, rather than any of the characters- which I didn’t feel were particularly rememberable, and to be honest, I wasn’t really that invested in any of them.
I was fairly happy with where this story seemed to be heading- I wasn’t bored and it was fairly fast paced, but did feel the ending was a little underwhelming. Whilst there were a few twists and turns which I didn’t predict which made it entertaining, there weren’t any which left me with an “oh my god” moment.
Overall, it was a fun read and I did enjoy it, though probably won’t remember it forever.

Slow to start and had a lot of details that I couldn’t care less about but the final 100 pages picked up

Overview: I picked this up after reading the author's latest book "The Twins", which I loved. The Prank is her debut novel and the blurb really intrigued me. It's not a murdery type thriller, but oh wow...it was amazing and so so tense. I found the plot very unique, having not read another thriller like it. I was instantly drawn in to El and her elaborate scheme to get revenge. I did have my suspicions from the start and while I was right about one, the other twists blew me away!

Good points: I loved the writing style and just the fluidity of the story. Not once was I confused about anything or left needing more information. The twists towards the end just kept coming and I was so caught up in finishing it that I let the potatoes on the hob boil over...oops! Seriously a gripping thriller that really looks at the devastating effects of "pranks" and exploiting people for a cheap laugh. As I said I found the premise very unique and thought provoking.

Not so good points: To be honest I have nothing negative to say about this book. I really really enjoyed it.

A thriller I highly recommend and this author is now one of my auto-buy authors. Looking forward to seeing what she writes next!

Eleanor sets out to get revenge for her fathers death. He committed suicide as the result of a reality tv show prank which backfired.

This is a clever revenge thriller which grabbed me right from the start There are many twists and turns that keeps you guessing all the way through. Eleanor is a great character, and I was really rooting for her. The online exchanges with her partner in crime , HorseHead, were interesting, and I didn't guess his identity until the reveal. As an avid reality show viewer I loved the theme. There are dark themes in this book with some sadness, but there's also a little humour and lots of intrigue.

The book is read by one of my favourite narrators Georgia Maguire, who makes this great thriller even more awesome.
