Don't really know how this book got so many high reviews it was predictable and it dragged on. Nothing happened until probably the last few chapters. Literally forced myself to finish it in the hope I was wrong about this whole story; I wasn't.

‘The Prank’ explores pranks as entertainment - how far do we go for a laugh at someone else’s expense? And what happens when a prank goes wrong?

Eleanor works in a high end restaurant in London and is shocked when she comes across a familiar name one evening; Jim Valente - producer of the show ‘Pranksters’. She knows the name but can’t understand why she is having such an adverse reaction to it. That is until she does some research and realises that this man is linked to her father’s death.

Eleanor has never recovered from losing her father when she was a child, and her anger at discovering that Jim Valente’s TV show may have been the catalyst for the events surrounding his death spurs her on to delve deeper into ‘Pranksters’. Her research takes her to some very dark places on the web and as she finds herself knee deep in revenge sites, she comes across ‘Horsehead’, a dubious character with a plan!

I thought this was such an original and intriguing storyline with several different strands that make this such a compelling read.

The characters are all really well developed and complex. Eleanor is trapped by her grief, struggling to move on with her life and Jim Valente is absolutely vile - a powerful and dangerous man with an eye for the ladies (think Harvey Weinstein) he made my skin crawl but such a brilliant character! Horsehead was also very entertaining and the interactions between him and Eleanor were actually really witty.

Although this is a story of revenge, it is also very touching when it comes to Eleanor’s family background and I loved the relationship between Eleanor and her sister Lissy.

It’s hard to believe that this is a debut, it’s a brilliantly written thriller, full of twists and so nerve wracking in places I was on the edge of my seat! Highly recommended

I was so excited to read this book after seeing alot of good reviews online and let me tell you it certainly did not dissapoint! What happens when a reality TV prank goes wrong? With so many shows and videos online like it we can all easily laugh at the embarrassment of others but does anyone stop to think about how it may affect them and the fallout a 'harmless' prank could cause? Well El Greene is about to find out as she seeks revenge on the man who created the show that led to devastating effects on her family.

Gosh this book was filled with suspense! There were times when my heart was in my mouth at some of the situations that El got herself into and times when i wanted to shake some sense into her and make her stop but others when I thought she should go for it as that man deserved all he got!

I also loved the relationship that El and Horsehead had (albeit a bit of a strange one) and there were moments reading their conversations where I laughed out loud. Being British myself the comments about the difference in British and American culture made me chuckle.

Gerite the dog was by far one of my favourites in the book which I know may sound silly but I love how Mathews gave her so much character. It was a real comfort having a fun furry pal there whilst reading. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A great revenge plot which kept you in suspense and short chapters so even if there wasn't necessarily a shocking twist or cliffhanger all the time it still made for a fast paced read.

Thankyou to netgalley and Welbeck publishing for an arc in exchange for an honest review :)

Such an intense book, I was hooked from the start. I was constantly wondering where this story was going and was constantly shocked. The ending caught me off-guard, upon reflection, I am a little annoyed I missed the clues and hints for the big reveal but it was very cleverly done. Definitely an oh-my-god moment for sure! I am a little sad a certain couple didn't get together but will begrudgingly admit that it does fit the ending and the character development. A very dark thriller that I very much enjoyed reading.
