DNF at 25%

I tried reading this book twice.

The first time, in August, I stopped reading after 3 chapters, because I couldn't get into it and wasn't particularly fond of the writing. Granted, I was in a major book slump, so it could've been me. So I put it down and thought I'd try again before the release date. But then that came closer and closer, and I just didn't feel the pull to read it again. Finally, I gave it another shot because I saw some good reviews about it. I started reading and stopped at 25%. Although I don't think it's as bad as I thought it was the first time around, I just don't feel compelled to continue reading. In fact, I hadn't read anything in 4 days because I just always found something better to do than read. I don't feel involved with or pulled into the story, and I don't feel much chemistry with and between the characters. So, I decided to DNF at 25%.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reading copy given to me by the publisher through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own*

The Duke of Crestmont has decided that it's time he marry and in order to get it done quickly so he can retire to the country at the end of the season he hires matchmaker Joanna. Joanna excels at making love matches for her clients which makes the duke a challenge as he doesn't even care if he really likes his wife as long as she will be the perfect duchess.
Joanna is a big believer in love and the fact that the duke doesn't feel the same makes her all the more determined to see him fall in love and if she can get him to fall for the right woman maybe her best friends love life will work out like she hopes at the same time.
It was a lot of fun watching her trying to crack his shell and find his feelings and him slowly falling for her efforts and then them falling for each other. It took me a few chapters to get into this story because it felt very familiar, but the characters are great and the story line was fun, it managed to make me laugh and got me a bit misty eyed at one point as well.

I received this ARC through NetGalley and Entangled Publishing.

Such a fun read! It gave me a Anthony/Kate vibe which I absolutely loved. I think Jo was a fantastic lead and Matthew was a broody soft boy. There’s a focus on the importance of friendship and family, and a very realistic portrayal of jealousy. Spice wasn’t over the top and was well done.

Only complaint is the miscommunication always just makes me so mad.

Tropes:
~historical romance
~class difference
~Duke hero
~plus size heroine
~heroine with a career as a matchmaker

I adored this! The drama with the side characters made me extra invested, but the slow burn romance between the MCs was so sweet (and steamy)!

This book was provided by Netgalley and Entangled Publishing LLC for an honest review. All of the thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is exactly what you expect for the genre.
A stoic, grumpy and deep down loveable simp of a Duke and a spitfire, no nonsense matchmaker spinster firmly on a shelf battle it out in the game of wits and love.
While on a mission to find a match for her new client the estimated Duke she sees an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and with one match ensure happiness of two couples. What neither of them counted on was falling in love. Hijinks and heartbreak ensued. But naturally it all comes back to happiness in the end.
4 starts for true enjoyment
Also, it has spice if that is important to you.

This little book! Such a nice quick read! Cute little romance with a splash of heat. The book was easy to read, simple and engaging. A comfort book with a happy ending, just what I needed right now. The storyline and characters were quite interesting and made me enjoy the reading time. Everything fits nicely in the setting and a job of a matchmaker suddenly sounds amazing.
