this is my first time reading Bukowski, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He can be rude, and sometimes filthy but there is something about his writing that just hooks you. it's sad and kind of depressing.. raw and relatable. There are some real gems in there. It's a great read!
Three stars is already a lot to give this book. I will be honest, there are poems in here that I absolutely devoured, they spoke to something in my soul and I can't be more grateful for having read them. ("trench warfare," "the night i fucked my alarm clock," and "on the continent," among others)
But I can't judge this collection any higher, for although there are some specks of good writing there is also a pile of shit in here, and a few truly disgusting works such as "girls in pantyhose," and call me old fashioned but I don't think it's art for a man of fifty-something to write sexual poems about 13 year olds and rape.

He is a little weird but this is a book I have never been able to get rid of and always go back to reread parts.
wanted to like this, trying to get into more current poetry, but got 100 pages in and was turned off by the masochism. Not every lady is trying to get you stuck in her spider's web, dude.

Raw, unfiltered and repulsively beautiful. One of the best poems I've read in years. There's just something about Bukowski's writings that captures your soul. And I know not everyone might agree, but I like the way he plays with words to formulate his thoughts and feelings. Although he was pathetic. But overall, I loved it.

”don’t undress my love
you might find a mannequin;
don’t undress the mannequin
you might find
my love.”
This is one of my first time reading Bukowski, reading his poetry for real and not in school books or on the Internet. I fell in love with his writing when i read Letter to Sofia and since then I always wanted to read one of his books. This author is controversial, he is human and this might scare a lot of people. We want bitter sweat love and romance but the reality sometimes doesn’t suit our dreams. Bukowski tells the world’s truth without being ashamed of it. He lets his poetry be the mirror of what he is and he embraces all the new generations, he tells them all something. Something unique that we barely know or understand.
”love dries up”
“nobody ever finds
the one.”
The truth is love is a dog from hell. Everyone that believe in real love or in the novels books is a deluded person. It’s rear to find real love in this world. The one that we read about, the one that keep us awake at night, the one that everyone except us find. It’s hard but Bukowski knows it and he tells it in the most brutal and honest way possible. I feel in love of the way he explains concepts, of the way simple words can mean so much in his poetry.
He is something and I want to discover all the things he is.
